  • Crystal Corporation Case 분석 자료
Ethics(The Crystal Corporation Case)Among many ethical problems in business world, the most difficult task is something related to board members. Actually, many parties, such as board members and shareholders, are willing to compare their benefit with other management groups which record the best performance and revenue. In given case, CEO has intention to change her compensation plan for her own profits. It is possible, because CEO has close and private relationships with other board members. So, although company faces serious financial situations, the compensation of CEO or other high level employees can increase. In this situation, there are three possible persons who can restraint. One is auditor, another is shareholders, and the other is labor union. (1) First of all, auditor should check company’s financial statements in detail and give proper advices to board members. (2) In addition, shareholders are able to reject some revised regulations in general meeting for stockholders. (3) Also labor union can resist the revision of compensation by stressing the poor employment.Of course, it is not easy for them to make effective opinions against CEO if auditors and shareholders usually do not have specific knowledge and background about the business. For example, when a CEO wants to hire a superior applicant with huge salary in order to overcome some financial crisis, usually auditors and shareholders agree a CEO because there are not many options. Also nowadays the power of labor unions became weaker, so it is not easy to control. In ethical perspectives, I think the action of Pound is a crime. But there is no objective tool to define whether it is serious crime. So, first of all, we should expect the conscience of criminal. If all of board members agree with the new compensation, it is not only the ethical problem, but also the systematic problem in a company. In other words, this company will naturally fall down because of the moral hazard of insiders.Of course, we can think about another possible way, except auditors, shareholders and labor unions.(1) I think that government can lay down a legal regulation for possible problem. For example, by labor or commercial law, government can control companies which have unreasonable benefits for board members.(2) Also, The role of mass media is important. Actually, every news related with a stock value are spread quickly by internet. So, by the mass media, absurdities can be disclosed to public. For example, a few years ago, the CEO of GM was scolded by people because he used a company’s aircraft. Naturally, many people were upset because he use high cost airplane when employees suffered. As can be seen from this example, the power of mass media can be used properly. In conclusion, the main goal of company is the earning profits and distributing benefits to shareholders. So, when ethical problems occur, it can affect to company’s profit directly. Also, there could be huge intangible damage to company. Finally, about this Crystal case, a CEO of the Crystal Corporation should withdraw the new compensation plan, and focus on business. By thinking that ethical values are certainly related to financial and commercial thing in the business world, CEOs should keep away from possible ethical problems. There is no free lunch. If CEO’s behavior is not appropriate for the business ethics, it is easily expected that his company go to smash in the near future.

  • Mykon’s Dilemma 요약 분석
Ethics-Mykon’s Dilemma-Among many ethical problems what I had in my career and experiences, the most difficult decision wass the case which mixed up with public and private matters. Actually, the main goal of business is gaining profits and sharing that with shareholders or investors. However, sometimes a CEO hesitates their decision about business due to the reason that there is no clear definition about the public goods. In given case, Jack Spratt invented medicines, but faced with a big problem. In fact, his invention was great and diverse to reward many things through his achievment, because it can save many lives in the world. But, in order to get more public goods, we should know the best way for Jack Spratt?(1) Public goodsIn recent years, many companies have changed their main goals from the shareholders to customers. That means companies step by step have focused on the customers, in other words companies have tried to move peoples’ mind. For example, many automakers such as Toyota, GM and Hyundai have tried to make environment friendly cars like hybrid products. Whenever they released advertisements in papers, TV and streets, they said they want clearer and better life in earth not only for all people, but also for their offspring. But, this trend is not just about our environment and our future. Sometimes, we can say that they use this strategy and marketing for their sustainable sales and constant benefits.I would like to define the “public thing” that earns so many thing, such as profit, popularity and reward, for many parts of people than things which have somewhat limited possibilities. And, the decision for that is made by people or group who is not intelligent or special. So, in this case, Jack Spratt’s invention should be called great thing for public. In other words, Jack Spratt can find other way to develop although that makes some serious problems to its own company and companies related employees. But, who will care this problem for that?(2) EntityUsually, so many moneys are needed to invest for all people, and many Non-governments organization have carried out many activities in the world. However, there are so many other cases which one nation or one organization cannot handle because of limit of financial budget. For example, even now so many children in desert die because of lack of food and water. We have plenty of sources which can save their lives, but even non-profit groups cannot do it.In the given case, if Jack Spratt gives all rights to somewhere for public, but there is no group for that which can deal with equally and properly. I think that in this case Jack may say all about that to people and give all that to non-political organizations. Of course, there is no 100% clear and correct answer, but people have enough ability to find the way with their knowledge and experience.(3) Political issueMany commercial and financial things are definitely related to political issues which contain from normal political issue such as nation to nation to whole peoples’ goodness. Because human naturally pursues and give chase to its profits, so even if Jack Spratt decides to open that, many opposite groups can be showed up. To overcome that, there is only one way to let that problem be solved by people. That is, for the bigger goodness, sometimes some sacrifices may be needed. For instant, we know that many Eastern countries sometime hesitate to help so poor countries because they do not want that uncontrolled help can make their bigger problems. In conclusion, at first Jack Spratt’s decision for open that to people is a really great idea, but the ways and sacrifices of Jack Spratt’s company itself is a very important issue. Moreover, there is no guarantee that will succeed as Jack Spratt expected. But, it is not an ethical problem after that ste,p but human being problem to handle. So, Jack Spratt should try to find their best idea for himself. And, the perceptions of people in the world is the most important issue. It is not rare case in real world but it worth that because small thing can save and develop our world dramatically.
