A. About the company which I have worked during intersession.NAME: YOON’S SIGNS DEPOT INC.PHONE: (416)- 740-3367FAX: 740-9408LACATION: 237 TORYORK DR. WESTON M9L 1Y2Yoon’s sign. Technically, this company is not the construction company. The owner has managed a sign depot for 20 years in Toronto. Some customers unusually offer to him to renovate their stores and restaurants together when they order a sign. Otherwise, they ask the owner to recommend good construction company. He has thought that there is money in the interior business, so he used to work for that kinds of customers. When I finished my work placement, he asked me to make a team for renovating works. He wanted to hire me. But I answered “No”. I am going to write down why I decided to say “no” explaining what I have done.1. First day.I found the career Ad at the web job site. The owner was looking for the person who has experiences about construction. I left a message and around 5 pm, I got the phone from Mr. Yoon. Even I amall skills for the work. They were people who work for the sign depot. Honestly, I hoped I got some another skill from the work placement. It was not unfortunately. So I asked to the owner about my opinions. “If you are hurry, I can make it till due date.” And asked him “Would you mind to call my friend who also has learned the renovating skill at the same school?” I got the answer “yes” and recommend him to start work separately. I started the painting walls, and other workers did the sanding wood. Suddenly the owner yelled at one worker after few hours I started work. He kept yelling at him because one worker didn’t know what he had to do after sanding so he vacuumed the cabinets. Even he didn’t do wrong thing, the owner was angry to him. I guessed he didn’t want to pay money to him because I was going to call my friend next day. He was retired as incompetent. Anyway one worker was out and the owner told us he had no sense. I felt it was a real life. Anybody doesn’t want to work wit they used a heat gun though. However it was not a big deal because I also made lots of mistake like burning of laminate tape and miss calculation of the length of laminate tape. I noticed that I need experiences more and more and on and on. The reality is always not the same with the book.I kept putting the laminate tape on the edges and Philip painted the doors. Other worker didn’t do special task. He just kept sanding or cleaning up. It was so sucks. And even he was a kind of manager of us, he couldn’t lead us. In my opinion, all work especially hard works need rest because the fatigue can cause the mistake and the accidents. He didn’t know that and kept being pretend to work hard. He just worries if I make a mistake. He can not be a good manager whatever he does. He became problem maker later.Tools are very important and it also can reduce wastes of time and money. In the job site, there is just one knife and no more extra blades. How we could finish the task early. I kept burning l which I used in the classroom to cut the extra laminate tape on the edge. We didn’t have this kind of tool and had just one knife so I had to sanding the edge with rasp. It was not saving down expenditure but dissipating our energies.4. Fourth day.The schedule was a varnishing and tiling wood tile on the floor. Even one night passed, stain was not dried yet. So we wiped the surface of the cabinet with dry duster. The stain was absorbed into the wood came out on and on. We kept wiping and started to varnish. Actually the owner bought 2 can of varnish. It’s not enough. We varnished the cabinet one time. The owner came over the job site and he asked me that “There are gaps between cabinet with shelf. The gap is around 3/4” at each side. I want you fix it with laminate tape. How about put 4 times of tape at each side?” ‘Oh my god~’ “Just one taping takes 5 minutes at each side. And 4times of taping, each side and 16 pieces of shelves? I don’t think so. We can’t work tomorrow because the wood tile should be hard during at least one day. I need your help”. Finally, we’d worked for 14 and half hours at this day to finish the flooring. It was really hard. Backache.5. Fifth day.This day’s work was a removing plastics word from the billboard and the front glass of the store. I’d thought all work could be connected with construction business.B. What I’ve got after a work placement and which was helpful or notActually, I’d expected too much about the work placement.
