KOREA'S FIRST SPACE-MANWhat do you want to be when you grow up? What do your parents want you to be when you grow up? I wonder how many of students answered "I want to be an astronaut!" But, Korea does not have any astronauts yet. When will a Korean leave his footprint on the moon and come back? But that is going to change just. The Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) will officially announce its plan to select the country's first astronaut on April, which marks Science Day. That is the good news for those of you who want to become an astronaut. The bad news is that there is going to be a lot of competition to actually go into space. The ministry expects around 40 thousand applicants by the July 14 deadline. Finally the competition ratio is 36200 to 1. The responses are hotter than expected. About 80 percent of the applicants are men. First space-man will be choose fulfilling the qualification criteria below.Anyone who is over 19 and Korean citizenship can apply. Both girls and boyseamwork spirits".The procedures of selecting Space-man will be held in four different stages within about a year of period. In the documents examination to select a space-man, the family status, social back ground and the purpose of volunteer of candidates will be judged. And The Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) will conduct its first physical examinations for two days begging July 22(지금 폭우로 한달이 연기됐는데 정확히 언제인지는 모르겠음). The physical test will be tough because it will include running 3.5 kilometers in under 20 minutes. They will hold tests in six areas across the Korea. Seoul, Pusan, Taejon, Kangnung and Cheju. In the third(next) stage, more precision tests on both physical and mental status will be taken during the 4 to 5 days period.Three hundred will be selected for the first round, 30 will go through to the second round, 10 in the third. After that, there will be an interview to ask about the perception or hoping factors and anScience related knowledges ( such as electronic engineering, structures of rockets, basic science and taxing out technologies, etc.), surviving ability in isolated area, swimming and scuba-diving techniques, flying training and picture taking technologies, etc. Only one of them however will be finally chosen a the first Korean astronaut to ride on the Russian manned spacecraft in April 2008. The convincing Space-Ship to carry Koreans is "Souyz" of Russia. The final selected space-men's staying period in the ISS is normally 7 to 8 days. In some of the media, they had miss announced as 10 days. This is the total hours including from the moment when the rocket is fired to the time that they would returned to the earth. Although the 10-day stay at the International Space Station is too short to perform any significant scientific experiment. It is known that it is the Korean space-men's duty to test the functions of advanced technologies such as ear masked which is developed to prevent noiseg fund will be supported by the civilian corporations. It is only natural to call arguments on whether or not it is really worth to invest 26 billion won on the popularization event if we focus on the expense versus effect. Further, in case of there isn't ant civilian corporation which would happily step out, a large portion of expenses to research would have to be poured in by researches of KARI which is initiating this project. And among this, a large portion of it could be the citizen's bloody taxes. A certain portions of point of view upon this space-man project as a source of anxiety is origined by these reasons. As the result, there are some serve insists of saying that "if we would made the space ship by ourselves and can send Koreans in it to the space, it could be a meaningful event but what kind of benefit can we possibly expect in advancing our space-ship technologies by spending a large amount of money to ride a space-ship which was manufactured by the other country? If we arered to be valuable to use other country's space-ship to produce useful space-man.The reason that the other countries such as Japan, England and Israell, etc. had used other country's space ship top produce their space-men is here.)The Economical value on the space-ship project is definitely low but more than that, there is much larger invisible and future-intensional value in it. If we can lead the national interests on the space-ship industry through this event, and if we can give dreams and hopes to the juveniles, that value would exceed over 20 Billion Won. First of all, the MOST and KARI provides two reasons for persuading to make Korean first space-men. First, through the selecting the space-man, courses of training them and experience to fly the space-ships, we can obtain the men-ridding space-ship technology.Second, by sending Koreans to space which is the world of future, we can enlightening our people's concerns toward the science and also can give dreams and hopes to our juvr.

** Korean Drinking culture **Year-end parties are probably the most important events in December for Koreans. These are would be the busiest season of the year for Koreans. We have the many parties with relatives, friends (the same graduating class in elementary school, middle school, high school and universities), co-workers, business acquaintances, etc. Korea is a highly face-saving society. So Korean has a time with friends when we spend weekend (?) the close of the year. Especially, the alcohol is necessary thing of parties in Korea. So many people have appointments to go drinking almost every night.Korea was the second heaviest-drinking country in the world. Also A survey by Korea Drinking culture Research Center shows one in every three Korean men is near alcoholics. This result was surprised to our. This is the grim realities. Of course, drinking is positive side to it. Alcohol reduces stress and tension. Also all this getting together, eating and drinking likely help bring a hea drink too much more than their drinking capacity. If they had drunk more than you got they think that they proved their superiority over than you. So they exert all possible drink for show their ability. They will result in lose control of themselves because they got dead drunk (?). There are many reasons for Koreans aggressive drinking habits. For example, Korean play game it used alcohol in drinking party. These games make full of harmony more than before. But we make someone drink by force through a game such as "Poktanju" ”Padotagi” “Dominoju” or "Titanic”. One or two glasses of these games may be helpful to create a good atmosphere at a drinking party. But three or more will only deprive the party of conversations among the participants. Because people will only want to say whatever is on their mind instead of listening to others. Also it is very effective that making people get drink fast. The Korean has a think that we could friendly more than before if we had drunk together. the atmosphere. They drink hopelessly because they don’t speak their mind or refuse. The misconception that people who don’t drink can’t have good relationships with others is widespread. We have been thinking for the long time that small drinker doesn’t have the ability to live a normal life as a member of society.Alcohol came into the world deep in our history. It is no exaggeration to say that drinking is start from the earliest of history with human. We have something to look for alcoholic drink wherever you may go any countries. In our country alcohol is close at hand. In old Korea, people expressed their love of alcohol in a way other than drinking it in massive quantities. Our ancestors thought that three cups of liquor made you comfortable warm, five cups made you fell good for one day. Our ancestor's drinking manners different from today's in many points. There is something we should know and learn. First of all, our ancestors learned drinking manner with their father and theors after they enter University. Learning drink rules through our elders will bring a better drinking culture than we have now. Also, it seems that many University students are dead gone on drinking. Why do University students drink so much? They don’t enjoyed play culture sincerity (진정한 놀이문화) during in the high school days. So, freshman who started University life are absorbed in this drinking culture easily. Student may speak about democracy and independence but they don’t realize it applies to drinking. Their parents are generous to overlook bad behavior because they become to the University students and many University students were drinking. In the new term, we will give a welcome to the freshmen and have many opening parties such as OT(Orientation), MT(Membership training), Class meeting, First meeting and Festival. The alcohol come out unerring. I want to change their thinking and they have to worry about themselves drinking culture. We should speak that our mind or refuse. We muing culture, not study what their regular occupation.(?) We never forget, above all, should start for change the drinking culture from University. I hope that in the new time, I will see that the drinking culture of University is better than before. Now, I think that we should change about our drinking culture.대학시절에 (while at university)◇ Tips for good drinking.
