English Speech: Protection of The EarthHello. I am very pleased to be with you here today to deliver a speech about the protection of our dear planet, Earth.When our grandparents were children, people had very little awareness of environmental problems. Nowadays, however, we can no longer ignore our environment due to the worldwide pollution that exists. We definitely have to protect and preserve our planet to the extent that we can.First, I would like to point out the effects of the global warming phenomenon. One is deforestation. This means that many forests in different parts of the world have either already become or are rapidly becoming deserts. An example of this is the Amazon jungle. Another effect of global warming is the occurrence of heavy rains, which bring about severe flooding. So many people in different parts of the world have been killed by raging floodwaters or have been reported missing ever since flooding occurred in their areas where they live.Second, the atmosphere of the earth is rapidly changing due to the large amounts of carbon dioxide and methane in the ozone layer. When large amounts of these so-called “greenhouse gases” are released into the air, the temperature of the earth rises to the point that it can melt a lot of glaciers or ice. This is another effect of the global warming phenomenon that currently exists, caused by greenhouse gases.Have you ever seen the movie “The Day after Tomorrow”? It highlights the disaster brought about by climate change on account of global warming. In one scene of the movie, a large chunk of ice or glacier falls because the people just went on polluting their environment, just as we are doing today.In a nutshell, global warming causes deforestation, which destroys the ecosystem, as well as rapid climate change. As such, we should do all that we can to protect and preserve our planet. How can we solve these problems? One way is to use products that are environment-friendly, such as solar, hydrogen, and wind power energy rather than fossil fuels.In conclusion, we must keep in mind that it is our duty to take care of the planet Earth as we are the ones who are inhabiting it. If we do not take care of it, there will come a time soon when it will be destroyed and will no longer be able to sustain people, just like during the past Ice Ages. We should try to make the earth sustainable so that the next generation of people, and the following generations, will still have a planet to live on. Let us always remember the Saying “Our environment is not ours; we’re just renting it from our descendants.”Thank you for listening to my speech.
