  • Executive Summary of Under Armour, Inc.
Analysis of Strategic FactorsA. Situational Analysis (SWOT)StrengthsOne of the biggest strengths for Under Armour has to be its products. There are very few producers in the performance gear market that can match the superior performance seen in Under Armour’s products. Under Armour was the original developer and manufacturer of performance gear and based on the time and research they continue to apply, they have a great understanding of its abilities and capabilities. They have even gone so far as to get scientific proof that their product is better.Another strength Under Armour has is the increased product awareness through their sponsorships. With these sponsorships they are getting professional and college athletes to wear their equipment, which is being seen by millions of people on television. This is a great marketing technique, and will help to drive sales, as people want to wear the same equipment as their favorite athletes.WeaknessesWhile Under Armour has continually set themrgest threats to Under Armour in the apparel, shoe, and sporting equipment markets. Both companies have a very large hold on markets that Under Armour is trying to expand into, and Under Armour is going to have to find a niche to be able to safely move into those markets. Nike and Adidas both continue to progress and make moves into the performance gear market, trying to take away a portion of Under Armour’s sales.B. Review of Current Mission and ObjectivesUnder Armour’s current mission and objectives are appropriate for continuing to be a leader in the sports performance market; however they should look at improve their current objectives to include the expansion in the sports apparel market, as well as, the addition of distribution centers. These two factors are key to Under Armour's growth and expansion and as they continue to grow, the objectives must move from just “changing how athletes live” (2015 Annual Report, 104) by incorporating how athletes play. Under Armour will continuee chat, twitter, e-mail, and phone call, but the company needs to improve its customer service in order to beat its rival companies, Nike, Adidas, and Champion. One recommendation would be employing intelligent assistants who have adequate knowledge about Under Armour products while adopting automatic answering machine that can respond to the customers in non-business hours. By doing this, the customers will be more capable in finding their needs and wants when they are dealing with minor problems regarding products or services. Along with that, developing E-commerce will be a strategic key to Under Armour’s success in the future. As of now, Under Armour is still a relatively new brand in the international market, though Under Armour reported “global net sales amounting to more than 3 billion U.S. dollars, a more than fourfold increase compared to sales in 2008.” (Statistics and Facts on Under Armour) This means, there is a strong likelihood that Under Armour can expand its business fat the new ideas. For Under Armor, it is understood that they are behind in the sales and marketing areas in comparison to Nike and Adidas. The first thing to implement would be more television ads designed to target the demographic in which they are missing at this point. In order to organize the thoughts listed above, Under Armour will need to increase the spending budget. There will be more expenses associated with getting brand recognition for Under Armour, which will include getting more celebrity athletes to get behind the brand and push the product. One of the biggest things that a brand like Nike has over Under Armour is their brand recognition and how it is seen all over the world. Under Armour will need a bigger budget to get high profile athletes and a decent amount of athletes to get behind the product. Right now Nike has several athletes endorsing them and not just one which helps with the male demographic and the female demographic because Under Armour doesn't exactly targepparel and increasing the overseas sales.Under Armour needs to begin a product that sets them apart and that would be selling exercise equipment and gear. We have seen big chain stores like Dick's in the past and Sports Authority now, both fail at times and a company like Under Armour could capitalize on the marketplace. If they contribute more funds towards beginning a new line of business than it would set them apart because Nike and Adidas don't sell equipment. The biggest platform to show off your brand and to help expand in a global market, in which you are struggling, is the Olympics. If you can get athletes from all over the world to wear the apparel and utilize Under Armour gear than it would help promote the brand on the biggest stage of them all. You could easily overpay them to wear the product and since Under Armour prides itself on the quality of the product, the athletes would be impressed.Evaluation and ControlAt this point it has been decided on how Under Armour is goin6.

  • Economy by Big Business vs. Environment
Economy by Big Business vs. EnvironmentAbstractThe purpose of this research paper is to identify ethical issues arising between big business and environment and to find out which one is more valuable over the other when it comes to rendering great benefits to overall society. Throughout the paper, I will show how economic development caused by big business has been damning environmental condition and how too much preservation of environment has caused economic crisis and poverty.IntroductionThese days there are lot of ethical issues related to big business versus environment since our society tries to both keep the environmental condition as it is now not only for ourselves but also for the future generations and pursue the economic development. Considering the fact both big business and environment greatly influence our society, it’s very demanding to place more value on one factor than the other. In developed countries, such as the United States, Japan, and Sweden people who already l phones, TVs, etc and last year alone, the United States exported enough e-waste to cover a football field and rise a mile into the sky,” (Allen). A lot of Chinese people who are working on dismantling and recycling electronic materials after burning them, are extremely exposed to brain-damaging, lung-burning, carcinogenicity, and birth-defect. Even though they take this harsh job that intimidates their health because they have nothing to do elsewhere, it is not something that should be done by Chinese people, given the fact that dumping toxic waste by developed countries to developing countries is an illegal act under the Basel Convention (Allen). Not only China, but a lot of developing countries are dealing with this issue letting their citizens suffer from a variety of diseases and despoiling their environment. Sometimes, we might say that we are the ones who are not badly damaged by environmental contamination and we need more regulations regarding protecting the environment becauave to pay something in change for the goods. In other words, economy is the process of what people get through production and labor, and what they consume based on economic goods they have achieved. In that process, big business is very closely related economic movement because consumers acquire and consume a lot of economic goods on big business. The meaning of economic development is the measurement for per capita GNI, Gross Domestic Product, and Gross National Income. The primary factors that influence the economy through several ways are an increase in population, an accumulation of capital, and a development of technology. In addition, the success of big corporations in a nation can be considered a requisite factor for economic development of the country. Even though the increase in population does not always positively influence the economy it will eventually help the economy expand rapidly considering how Chinese and Indian companies are doing in the world in terms of economy athe concept of ecological environmentalism are also inclined to think there should be some changes related to our consciousness in harmony between the human beings and the nature in order to protect the environmental disruption (“The Ecology of Environmentalism,” Verdesenalianza). As we know, economic development that is achieved by science and technology continuously aggravates the environment, and it is becoming worse as we, as consumers, have been gripped by crude materialism and harsh competition to succeed. From perspective of ecological environmentalism, we need to focus more on preserving an ecological system rather than on developing the economy to solve the essential environmental problem. In the process of that, changing our view on materialism is highly required in prior to anything. However, it might be extremely ideal for people who have been influenced by modern civilization because those who already have are reluctant to give up what they have. Also, we’re faced with rea from preserving or protecting the environmental condition.Sustainable DevelopmentAccording to the Encyclopedia of Earth, The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the Earth Summit, took place in Rio de Janeiro, Hyperlink "http://www.eoearth.org/article/Brazil" o "Brazil" Brazil, from June 2-14, 1992 (Cleveland, Cutler, Ida Kubiszewski). The main focus on the meeting was the question of how to preserve the environmental condition while having sustainable development. The website emphasizes the concept of sustainable development as, “economic and social progress that depends critically on the preserving of the nature resource base with effective measures to prevent environmental degradation,” (Cleveland, Cutler, Ida Kubiszewski). By adopting and focusing on sustainable development, we keep the balance between the environment and economy, instead of putting a priority in either of them. In other words, this sustainable development means a social2.

Daily Deal or Lasting Success? These days there are a lot of websites that provide customers some discounts or coupons on daily bases for other companies’ products and services. But it wasn’t the fact until Groupon came up with ideas of working as a middleman service that promotes restaurants, cafes, and stores around the customers’ living areas. Groupon, which is localized to major geographic markets worldwide, is a deal-of-the-day website. Launched in November 2008, the first market for Groupon was areas in Chicago. Our textbook mentions, “Groupon began as a local Chicago discount service and became a global phenomenon seemingly overnight” ((Bamford, Hoffman, Hunger, Wheelen 489). As of October 2010, Groupon served more than 150 markets in North America, and 100 markets in Europe, Asia, and South America. The company offers customers one Groupon, a combination of the words “group” and “coupon” per day in each market it serves (Bamford, Hoffman, Hunger, Wheelen 490). The Groupon that ce deal is available to every customer. Also, retailers or sellers can reduce risk because they treat coupons as quantity discounts as well as sales promotion tools.Three Findings of FactFirst, Groupon Company succeeded and gained a reputation under uncertain economic conditions. According to the textbook, “Consumers began spending less as a result of the financial crisis, and so the demand for coupons increased. At the same time, merchants began looking for new and effective ways of attracting business” (Bamford, Hoffman, Hunger, Wheelen 505). However, the company is now faced with fierce competition since there are not only traditional offline coupon and discount services, but there are also newspapers, magazines, and other traditional media companies that provide coupons for products and services. When the company first came out, providing coupons or discounts was an innovative idea to connect consumers with sellers, now too many rivals, such as Amazon Local and Google Offers who aresider focusing on some specific products or services instead of covering all areas of businesses. Along with that, the Groupon Company can have a partnership with major Internet websites or companies in order to bring better outcomes. By doing that, the company would be able to publicize more deals and enhance its reach to more potential customers as Amazon tied with LivingSocial, a private company that provided daily deals to make more profits.Second, there are some reasons customers are turning against Groupon Company. Many people who experienced using the company, complain about their false advertising and poor customer service (Diane). When I personally used Groupon Korea before it failed and withdrew out of the Korean market, I was disappointed by its false advertising on the hotel I stayed. It was very different from what I saw in the advertising of the Groupon Company. Even if I made a comment on its website regarding my experience in Groupon, I never got a satisfactory response success these days, Groupon’s false advertisings and poor customer service may bankrupt the company in the long run. We’re well aware of the fact it’s important for Groupon to keep a good relationship with local businesses and provide the customers quality products. However, keeping a good relationship with the customers as the company gets rid of deceptive advertising and poor customer service is more important because especially companies like Groupon can’t have competitive power without the customers’ support and help. In my opinion, if Groupon tries to differentiate itself from the competition and focus on building better relationship and will with the customers, the company can utilize its resources effectively. Some recommendations would be improving functionality of mobile platform as more and more customers are using smartphones nowadays and giving preferential treatment to the customers who actually bought products or used services from the company.Last, using Groupon may cauvice, some of the existing or potential customers will not be willing to perceive the value of the brand as it is. In other words, by discounting the price the perceived value of the brand by the customers will decrease, and it will be eventually devalued. By this, we can assume that not all businesses that use Groupon as a way of attracting their customers succeed due to different business environments or characteristics. Therefore, when companies want to use Groupon for their marketing, I highly recommend that they consider whether Groupon is a right tool for their business. In addition, when small businesses are not ready to accept enormous numbers of people, high traffic can be disastrous to them. It’s not possible to provide high quality service or product to the customers if there is huge influx of new customers. Before this happens, both Groupon and businesses that are using Groupon for their marketing should attract the right customers at right time.Works CitedBamford, Charles.

  • Apple Samsung Patent War (애플 삼성 특허 싸움, 전쟁)
How Apple-Samsung patent wars have impacts on both companies? It is very well known that Apple and Samsung have been fighting each other to protect their own patent in the past years. The two companies, which are considered to be strong competitors in the area of IT, sued each other for infringing on patent right in many countries, such as Australia, Germany, South Korea, and the United States. The first patent started in 2011 in San Jose, USA, when Apple took a legal action for its infringement of patent against Samsung electronics (Mintz). According to the article written by Mintz, “Apple launched its world courtroom attack against its rival company, Samsung, accusing the South Korean tech giant of copying the secret ingredients from the iPhone and iPad for its smartphones” (Mintz).Samsung electronics also litigated Apple for infringing its products in Germany, Japan, and the United States. Since then, there have been continuous conflicts between the two companies regarding the designr their penalties for infringing each company’s patents also needs to be considered. Due to using Apple’s iPhone and iPad technologies and designs in several its products, Samsung was ordered to pay $1.05 billion in damages to Apple in 2012. Though it was much less than the $2.75 billion Apple was seeking, it was the largest patent verdict of all time (Mullin). The article said, “Since Samsung's patent infringement was found to be willful in many cases, the $1.05 billion damages figure could go up” (Mullin). At the same time, Apple also ordered to pay $930 million for infringing Samsung’s technology. Even though there is an uncertainty as to who won the patent war, the two companies were found guilty of infringing some of each other's patents and ordered to pay damages (Tibken). For both companies, it was a meaningless battle in which they both got a lot of damages while fighting intensely with each other. Because of this, in 2014, Apple and Samsung decided withdraw their cases in other Apple and Samsung will withdraw even remaining lawsuits little by little because the two companies are more than aware of what will happen to them when continuously battling with each other.Second, bad reputation not only damages two companies’ sales, but it also impairs customers’ trust in products of Samsung and Apple because potential customers who believe Samsung has copied Apple’s patent, are not likely to buy products made by Samsung. On the contrary, those who believe Apple has copied Samsung’s technology of using and transmitting data will be reluctant to become Apple’s loyal customers. With that being said, damaged reputation makes it demanding for the two companies to attract new customers who are looking for an alternative product instead of buying one from one of these two companies. Also, patent wars sometimes have a bad influence on choices of existing customers. When Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus phones and tablets were banned to be sold in the United States back in 2011, I, a to create another product is not found to be infringed on a patent. If the company is willing to pay patent fee to the patent owner, it can still sell the products bearing extra loss in its profit. But if that’s not being the case, the company should start creating a new product from the drawing board, which will require another time, effort, and money. When the company decides to go back to the drawing board, this time the customers expect better quality from a new product and usually end up getting not satisfied enough. It’s most likely to happen in bigger companies, like Apple and Samsung assuming that they have more customers who have different needs and wants. In that sense, for Apple and Samsung, creating a new product will slow down their internal improvements and ultimately interrupt overall the development of technology. Also, copying products manufactured from other companies will not result in failing to come up with creativity and innovation when it comes to making its own interested their brands, which will finally lead into better sales and profits. For example, there was an increase in sales of Samsung Galaxy phones in 2012 even though Samsung was ordered to pay fees in damages to Apple (Gartner). In conclusion, Apple-Samsung patent wars have been embroiled in controversy in recent years along with many trials. Both companies claimed they were owners of patent rights and litigated each other for infringing their products of technology and design. Having a lot of loss in sales and customers from the patent wars, they are now seeking compromise, dismissing their cases in several countries. In most cases, the patent wars between the two companies have detrimental effects on their sales, customers, and development of technology in the end. With that being the case for most time, the patent wars sometimes can bring positive results for Apple and Samsung in light of gaining public interest in their phones and tablets. However, it is true that Apple and Sams5.

  • Testing for language teachers (chapter 13,14)
Ch 13 testing grammar and vocabulary In any forms of grammar tests, it is necessary to list grammatical structures and specifications of the content, which will make the tests more valid. At the same times, text of items should be grammatically correct and natural. Since gap filling might be a demanding work for test takers, it should have any only one correct answer. Paraphrasing is an academic work that we write a sentence similar to one that is given in terms of meaning and context. With that being mentioned, it is a great tool to measure students grammatical ability. Next, the technique of completion which is to fill where answer after reading conversations, is used to test several structures. Another alternative can be multiple choice questions when gap filling or paraphrasing cant test what we want to test. Lastly, regardless of testing
