The attitude to the choice we make200602286 이상훈“It has been said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world," E.N. Lorentz said. You probably have heard of this quote as Chaos Theory or as Butterfly Effect and this means such small changes like a fluttering of a butterfly can induce a big change in the future. Likewise, the choices that we have in our lives can affect our future. Therefore, we try our best on making decisions to not be regretful. Then what attitude should we have, if choices come to us?If you realize that everything you have been living was not real and you are being used for making money, how would you feel? The Truman Show is about a guy who gets through those situations. One day, Truman who had a perfect life finds out that everything surrounded him is not real. He tries to get away from the fake world to find a real world and finally gets to the exit door. The choices are given to him by the director of the fake world: stay and have a perfect life or face the real life. He chose the harsh and tough real life, because, he wanted to find a girl who he truly loves. I think it is not only he believed himself it is the correct way, but also did not avoid the fear that he will confront.There is another movie which portraits a guy who have similar choice to Truman: Good Will Hunting. Will is a genius boy but he behaves defensively and opens his mind only to his close friends due to his bad memories of childhood. However, he meets a true mentor and learns how to live a life and it becomes a turning point in his life. The choices are given to him as well: use his gift and work at a big company or go find a true life and love. He chose the latter one. Will did not dwell on the sameness, because he believed that stepping forward is the correct way to find his life. I am impressed that he got over with the trauma which oppressed him in his whole life.I also have a similar experience that I stood at a crossroad. Last year in January, I was considering going to America to learn English. But I did not want to be far away from my family, friends and many things that are familiar to me. I hated and was worried to go alone to the other country which is too far and I do not know very well. Yet I wanted to be fluent enough to talk with people in English and knew that I can make new friends. I cheered myself up and finally decided to go. Consequently, I had a good time with new friends, learned the culture, my English has improved and gained responsibility and confidence.Sometimes, we regret our choice and wish to go back to fix it. Needless to say, it may cause different results, but you would not know that your choice can satisfy you. Thinking of the past things is a waste of time, and it does not bring you to the next step. Our future consist of lots of choices, however, what really important is our conviction and belief of what we do.
