PREPARATORY WORKS AND TESTINGAfter replacing the top bad mater ial on site, the RIC will fo llow the comp let ion of vibro compact ion.6.1 Preparatory WorksThe compaction area will be fr ee of obst ruct ions and other trades.A ground survey of the tria l area is to be undertaken prior to the compacti on works starting(main contra ctor) , the survey is to extend at least 6m beyo nd the compaction area. The tr ial area is to be set out by GPS with visible markers on the ground for operator guidance. The locat ions of the Pre Compact ion three CPT's will be identi fied and marked.6.2 Tr ial AreaMenard proposes an area of 24m X 24m for the t rial of the rapid im pact compact ion method. Thecom pact ion pattern wi ll be executed fo llow ing the number orde r shown below, which will result in a first set of compac t ion points based on an init ial Sm grid spacing with a finer second set 2.Sm gr id spacing inbetween. The comp act ion pattern for t he tr ial area is shown in Figure 4. Two pre and post CPTs are proposed to be carried out .
1. INTRODUCTIONThe Dynamic Compaction (DC) technique is used to densify the weak ground. The technique wasinvented and developed by Mr. Louis MENARD.This technique requires the use of pounders weighing 15 to 40 tons released in free fall from a height of10 to 40 meters. The arrangement of the impact points and the other parameters of the treatment(energies, phasing, rest periods) depend on the characteristics of the soil to be treated and on theresults of the trial zone. 2. PURPOSEThe purpose of such procedure is to provide details of Dynamic Compaction (DC), as a mean ofimplementing this technique in a systematic manner and that works are inspected and documented.3.
