Psychoanalytical Review for Dead Poets SocietyNameSchoolNURS: Psychosocial Nursing CareProfessorDateCharacter ReviewThe movie Dead Poets Society showed adolescents' identity crises in a highly competitive academy, Welton Academy. Neil Perry, one of the main characters of Dead Poets Society, was an adolescent who was facing a conflict between him and his dad regarding what he wanted to do. Neil found his passion for acting while his dad wanted him to focus on academic abilities so that Neil could get into Harvard University and ultimately into medical school. The task he was facing was identity versus role diffusion. Neil’s dad, Thomas Perry, was an adult whose task was generativity versus stagnation.Defense MechanismsThroughout the movie, Neil showed the two most used defense mechanisms: suppression and denial. When Neil discovered the advertisement looking for an actor for the role ‘Puck’ from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he expressed his excitement to his roommate, Todd Anderson. Neil nful aspects. There were not enough scenes to analyze the defense mechanisms of Thomas Perry as he was a supporting character in the movie.Mental IllnessThroughout the movie, Neil showed ‘ups and downs,’ which represented the duration of each mania and depression. While each duration was unclear for Neil, it is a normal finding in bipolar disorder (Tondo et al., 2017). However, his manic phase was less severe and less dramatic. Thus, Neil would have a cyclothymic disorder or type II bipolar disorder rather than type I bipolar disorder (Boyd & Luebbert, 2021). Neil also had risk factors for bipolar disorder, including a lack of social support and stressful life events (Boyd & Luebbert, 2021). During his hypomania phases, he showed elevated mood and excitement, as evidenced by the event when he found out about the advertisement seeking an actor. Neil said, “I found what I want to do right now, what’s really, really inside of me,” before he got any part and permission from his dad. Additipeak and would insist on his plan, saying, “Is that clear?” Throughout the movie, he showed his stubborn personality, leading Neil to hide that he is a part of the play. Unfortunately, both figures did not meet any healthcare professionals regarding their mental status. While no one recognized Neil's psychiatric signs and symptoms, his friends realized that Thomas Perry was an extremely controlled, authoritative figure.Nature versus NurtureWhile bipolar disorder is known to have a genetic predisposition, stress and lack of support can be risk factors for obtaining bipolar disorder. In the movie, the Perry family did not show the signs of bipolar disorder. However, Thomas gave Neil significant stress and pressure regarding his academic performance and future. As evidenced by making Neil withdrawn from some extracurricular activities, Thomas did not show support for his son. Thus, the clinical characteristics of bipolar disorder Neil showed were likely to be nurtured rather than nature. access a firearm and committed suicide. The possible nursing diagnosis for Thomas is an ineffective family function related to ineffective communication skills. Thomas was an authoritative figure, forcing his ideas rather than listening to others. His personality and behavior lead his son to refuse to express his feeling and suppress any desires for self-actualization.Possible TherapiesIn Dead Poets Society, Neil and Thomas were not seeking or receiving any psychiatric treatment. If Neil and Thomas were receiving psychiatric health care, the possibly helpful therapies for Neil would be family therapy and pharmacological therapy. Family therapy would be beneficial to resolve the conflicts within the family unit over time, helping family members to understand each others’ points of view. For pharmacological therapy, antidepressants would be helpful as he represented a depressive mood and his manic phase was not severe. The helpful therapy for Thomas would be family therapy as well. Whilehim to open up the stories about his family and the amount of pressure he had. If I were a nurse caring for Thomas Perry, I would be an active listener as well, but I would focus on the reason why he is obsessed with success and the anxiety he had.DiscussionI enjoyed watching Dead Poets Society. This was my second time watching this movie. As I watched this movie for the second time, I was able to analyze characters from psychosocial perspectives. I felt that Dead Poets Society described the identity crisis that adolescents went through. Even though the moral of the story was ‘Carpe diem,’ rather than describing psychiatric features, I was able to spot some psychiatric features in the characters. This movie also made me think about how pressure and stress could impact one’s mental health. Neil Perry was a promising young man with confidence, extraordinary academic performances, and artistic expression. However, the pressure over time lead him to cyclothymic disorder and ultimately to i

Moreover, a person who wore a mask with the color red was a symbol of terror in South Korea in the past. Her name was Red Mask, depicted as a slim woman wearing a red surgical mask. The urban legend of the Red Mask spread in Korea from the 1990s to the 2000s. The Red Mask created terror throughout South Korea, showed the cultural similarities between South Korea and Japan, became the iconic horror figure in mass media, and had terror on children while it benefited parents throughout the nation from the 1990s to 2000s.The Red Mask was a woman who was a victim of jealousy. She was originally a beautiful woman with two older sisters. Her older sisters were jealous of the beauty of their youngest sister so the older sisters tore both ends of the youngest sister’s lips from ears to ears and dumped her out of the window from the secondlocations and towns, there are variations for the stories, methods for running away from the Red Mask, and questions that the Red Mask asks since the story is an oral tale. Some may remember the Red Mask as a victim of plastic surgery, not a victim of her older sisters. Others may remember the version that the Red Mask was crazy and she ripped her lips voluntarily. Also, the Red Mask fears any building which is higher than the second story because she died from falling from a height so children can escape from her by rushing into the second story of a nearby building. Also, giving vague answers such as “you look normal” or “I do not know” confuses the Red Mask, providing enough time to run away from the Red Mask. Meanwhile, a personality test based on blood types was a trend. The blood type and the urban legend of the Red Mask are combined in some towns and the Red Mask cuts the victim’s blood types. For example, the cut will be small for those who have a blood type of A, and the cut w as well because both Korea and Japan share cultural similarities. The Kuchisake-onna story emerged in Japan in the late 1970s and the legend went across South Korea’s border in the 1990s (“Red Mask”). In Eastern Asian countries, it is common to wear a mask due to flu, dust storm, and pollen, especially in Japan and Korea. Therefore, it gives a realistic view of the Red Mask legend as it is easy to find a person wearing a mask. Additionally, Eastern Asian makeup emphasizes lip makeup, compared to Western makeup styles which emphasize eye makeup, so many lip makeup products have a bright red color, rather than nude tone lipsticks. Some people will wear their lipstick and then wear a mask so the lip makeup smudged due to the friction with the mask. As the lip makeup smudges around the lips, the mouth would look bigger than usual, and the lip makeup product would stain the mask, making the legend more realistic. As both countries share the same trend and culture, the same urban legend croask was so popular that everyone, no matter the age and gender, knew this story, and the Red Mask in South Korea and Kuchisake-onna in Japan were identical in the plot and details. Due to its popularity and widespread exposure in mass media, the Red Mask became the icon of the horror figure. The Red Mask put children in terror throughout the nation while it benefited parents. The children in South Korea stayed outside of the home for extracurricular activities after school. After the extracurricular activities, they hung out until the curfew. However, when the urban legend of the Red Mask emerged in schools, they would go home directly after the extracurricular activities. Some may refuse to go to extracurriculars and even schools due to fear of the red mask. Many students refused to go to school in 2004 in Pohang-si due to the terror of the Red Mask legend (Park). As I was seven years old in 2008, the urban legend of the Red Mask was still spreading in my town. Since I was timid and waatively positive view. Some parents used the Red Mask legend to caution their older children to be aware of plastic surgery as some stories of the Red Mask story showed that the Red Mask was disfigured by plastic surgery. Hence, the terror created by the Red Mask was so significant that parents could utilize it for their own purposes. No one knows if the Red Mask actually exists. Whether she is an actual person or is a fictional character, it is true that she has many impacts on cultural, social, and psychological perspectives in Korea. The Red Mask was not only a horror story character but also a key to understanding the cultural relations between Korea and Japan, the pop culture from the 1900s to the 2000s, and the psychological impacts on children and parents of the legend.Works Cited"Carved." S** MoonJ** BelizMyths and LegendsJanuary 31th, 2021Gods, Heroes, and AntiheroesIn Greek mythology, Zeus is the most known, powerful God among the Greek gods and goddesses. He fathered many Greek gods and goddesses such as Athena and Ares and many heroes such as Hercules. However, many people wonder who is the father of the strongest god. The answer is Cronos. Known as ‘Saturn’ in Roman, Cronos is the inspiring Greek and Roman mythological figure who is interpreted differently in regions, exemplifies the other gods, and has his own symbolsCronos was born between Gaia, the personification of the earth, and Uranus, the personification of skies. They gave birth to titans, Hecatonchires, and Cyclopes. Uranus imprisoned his sons, Hecatonchires, and Cyclopes, in Tartarus which is the womb of Gaia. Mad at Uranus’ action, Gaia created a scythe and asked her children to punish Uranus but all of her children, except for Cronus, hesitated to say a word. Cronus said he would undertake the deed, taof his sisters. Later, Gaia told Cronos and Rhea a prophecy that one of his successors will overthrow Cronos just as he did to Uranus. In order to avert the prophecy, he devoured his children, Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, and Hades, as soon as Rhea gave birth. Rhea asked Gaia how to save her sixth child. Gaia told her to give Cronos a stone wrapped with clothes instead of her son as a solution. Rhea followed her and hid Zeus. He was known to be raised secretly in a cave or the mountain of the island in Crete. As Zeus grew up, Gaia gave him an emetic and told him to give it to Cronos and save his siblings. Zeus made Cronos take the emetic. Cronos vomited, firstly, the stone, and the siblings of Zeus. Then, Zeus freed Hecatoncheris and Cyclopes in Tartar. The war, called Titanomachy, occurred between Zeus and Cronos and lasted for ten years with the victory of Zeus. The accounts after the war were varied. Some version said Zeus prisoned Cronos with the Titans in Tartar while the other smovies, usually depicting Cronos as evil. For example, “Saturn Devouring His Son,” painted by Francis Goya on the wall of his house, is portraying Cronos eating his child. It is one of the most famous, shocking artworks by Goya even though he did not intend to show it to the public. Also, Peter Paul Ruben’s “Saturn” is a famous painting, depicting Cronos (“Cronos” 267 UXL Encyclopedia of World Mythology). The actions of engulfing characters inspired directly or indirectly in many forms of art.Secondly, Cronos was not only the god of Titans and father of major Greek gods but also was the god of harvest. However, he did not play an important role in ancient Greek worship but there was a harvest festival called ‘Kronia.’ In the perspective of the Romans, Saturn was more appreciated than the Greeks and is regarded as the agricultural god. In the Roman version of the account after Titanomachy, Saturn moved to Italy, governed ‘the plain of Latium,’ where is the south of Rome, and ushered the’ because of a pronunciation similarity between Cronos and Chronos which is the personification of time (Nardo 115).Thirdly, Cronos showed many similarities among the other gods in thrones. For example, Zeus was the youngest one among his five siblings and Cronos was the youngest one among twelve Titan children of Gaia (“Cronus'' Encyclopedia Britannica). Zeus had the prophecy that one of his successors would overcome him, just as Cronos and Uranus from Gaia. The oracle said the first child between Zeus and Metis would be a girl and the second child would be a boy who will take the throne. However, Zeus overcame the prophecy by swallowing Metis and her unborn daughter (“Birth of Athena''). Later, the unborn daughter of Metis sprang out of Zeus’ skull, emerging fully grown. Her name is Athena and became the favorite child of Zeus. While Cronos married his sister, Rhea, Zeus married his sister, Hera. These characteristics might influence other gods.Lastly, Cronos symbolizes great power aicted asThe account of Cronos appears in the early stage of Greek mythology and is relatively short compared to the other Greek gods such as Zeus, Poseidon, and so on. However, the features of Cronos are impressive enough to generate paintings, books, and movies based on him. Furthermore, The description of Cronos varying the region and time is exceptional compared to other mythological figures. Cronos, also, exemplifies the other gods and symbolizes fate and great power.Work Cited“Birth of Athena.” GreekMythology.com, www.greekmythology.com/Myths/The_Myths/Birth_of_Athena/birth_of_athena.html. Suhyun MoonTara BlaserPHI-280October 7 2019The first ethical issue I found in the story is that Luis and Maria Elena entered the country illegally. It is breaking laws between Mexico and the United States. Also, they had a chance to enter the United States with a valid working visa, allowing them to find safe and secure jobs. Other people who legally work in the US with a valid visa spend their time and effort to get into the US. They are risking their family to get into the United States faster and cheaper, ignoring the safer option that many people choose. The second ethical issue I found is that Luis and Maria Elena worked illegally, withholding taxes from their salary. Even though they did not have a choice, it is ignoring all the rightful workers who pay taxes. Paying taxes for a foreign worker maintains his or her right to stay in the country. In addition, laws become serious with tax problems. I believe that it is an unethical action despite the fact that they did not have the ophich can not support their citizens, should not govern. As it is not fully taking its responsibility for being a country, it has an ethical issue. The fifth ethical issue is that Maria and Luis had a second child while they were financially struggling with themselves and Miguel. They can not ensure their children’s happiness, future and safety. If they can not afford or have a problem with taking responsibility as parents, they should not have more children than they can take care of.Maria Elena and Luis came to the United States without analyzing possible obstacles. Their actions would be considered partially right by Aristotle. He believed that something is good when it tries to or meets its purpose, which he called the ‘final cause.’ The final cause is to reach eudaimonia, habits of virtuous behaviors, by trying to give a better future for their children. They entered the United States and worked illegally to make money for their children, as Maria mentioned. Even though they were steveryone to ensure future and education of their children. As Socrates thought that unexamined life is meaningless, he would not approve of their decision to come to the United States (Socrates notes). The Epicureans would not agree with their idea as well. Epicureans believed that there are three types of desire: natural, thought natural and neither natural or necessary. While they believed that natural desire, which is necessary for living, should be satisfied and ‘neither natural or necessary’ desire should not be satisfied, ‘thought natural’ desire can be satisfied only if pain is not accompanied. Their decision to come to the United States gave them too much pain such as fear of being discovered as undocumented and of seperated family. If they decided to stay in Mexico, they would live with satisfying only mandatory needs such as food, clothes and shelter. Epicureans would think they are enough for living a pleasant life. Therefore, Epicureans would not approve of their decision tolden mean, which is moderation between deficiency and excess, is virtuous. According to the idea of the Golden mean, Aristotle would disapprove of Mexico as it provides too little service for its citizens. For example, Mexico does not provide adequate education and job. In the scenario, Maria and Luis had six years of education like others in their town do while most of the other parts of the globe requires at least nine to twelve years of education. They decided to leave for the United States so that their children can have a better education. Additionally, they lived in the town where it is impossible to make more than three dollars a day. It is not enough to save up for the other plans than basic needs. As services provided by Mexico as a government falls in deficiency, Aristotle would disapprove of Mexico in the scenario (Aristotle notes).Plato would highly disapprove with Mexico providing little education for its citizens. He believed that education is a key to make people moral. ve. The disinterested love is a kind of love which does not ask anything in return. Maria Elena and Luis worked hard for their children, not for themselves. Their love was supportive and was helping to make them moral human beings. All the motivation that made them to the United States was for their children, as mentioned in the story multiple times. They did it for them without expecting returns because Miguel and Joe are their children. Her idea for her children was perfectly fit for the disinterested love. Overall, Heloise will highly approve Maria (Abelard & Heloise notes).Stoics emphasized ‘apatheia’, lack of passion in order to seek peace and pleasure. According to the idea of apatheia, people should not let passion control them but should let reason control them. Having a second child seems an action controlled by passion, rathered than by reason. It costs more responsibility than the time when they have only one child. In addition, it is difficult to find a reason they have a s9
