<Abstract>
This teaching portfolio presents a four-week English poetry program designed for intermediate-level first-grade Korean middle school students. It consists of six sections: Theoretical Background, Class Detail, Four-Week Schedule Overview, Lesson Plan, Appendix, and References.

As explained in ‘Theoretical Background’, this course adopts problem-posing education in which students actively participate in class discussions. The ‘Class Detail’ provides specific information about the class setup with the target students. The ‘Four-Week Schedule Overview’ outlines what students will learn each week and the reading materials they will use. The ‘lesson plan’ offers simple but detailed teaching strategies, focusing mainly on English grammar. It includes lesson objectives, activities, and homework. The ‘Appendix’ includes a demonstration of a 7th period class to give you a clear idea of how the lessons will be conducted.

<Theoretical Background>
Korean students spend a lot of time studying English from an early age, but they often have difficulty speaking English. This is because they study primarily to get good test scores. Rather than fully understanding the material, they focus on the specific contents that will be on the test by relying on mechanical memorization. In addition, the classes are teachercentered, so students passively take notes on what the teacher explains. While teachers do occasionally ask questions, these typically have predetermined answers and are meant to convey information rather than encourage critical thinking. In other words, English education in Korea functions like a banking system, where knowledge is deposited into students' minds much like money in a bank.1
