In the movie, Erin Brockovich, people’s first impression of Erin (Julia Roberts) is made by her style of dressing. Even though she is very smart and competent, many people question her opinions because of her flamboyant appearance. In that, people do not see her personality or competency in work, but rather her clothes. Besides this movie, in the realities of life, people judge others by their appearance. However, there is a saying, “do not judge a book by its cover,” which means that we should not judge people or things solely because of our first impressions. In other words, we should not judge others by their clothes because style does not explain everything about a person. For example, in the aforementioned movie, Erin Brockovich proves her competence in a task despite other people’s incorrect judgment. In addition, we may think that someone who wears luxury clothing must be rich. However, he or she might have borrowed clothes from friends for a special day or he or she might actually be rich. So we cannot be sure of something about the person by his or her clothing. Yet no matter how hard people try not to judge others by the way they dress, clothing is still important because people do judge others by how they dress. Also, people can express their characteristics, situation, and status through their chosen style. Besides these, how people wear clothes affects their attitude and reveals themselves in ways which they do not even realize.
