초록

일본의 하쿠산(白山) 지역과 하쿠산 신앙권은 고대시대 한국 문화와 밀접한 관계에 있으며 동시에 오키나(翁) 가면의 일대 산지이자 노가쿠(能楽) 성립기의 비밀을 간직한 곳이기도 하다. 본고에서는 이러한 하쿠산 신앙 지역의 유서 깊은 민속 예능에서 영감․할미 모티프를 찾아내고 이것을 한국 탈춤의 「영감․할미마당」과 비교 분석함으로써 탈춤과 오키나(翁) 예능의 原像을 탐색하고자 하였다.
한국 탈춤과 하쿠산 민속예능에 등장하는 영감, 할미는 공히 지역 공동체의 재앙을 물리치고 풍요를 기원하는 수호신적 성격을 지닌다. 그러나 그것을 나타내는 극적인 퍼포먼스의 양상에는 차이를 드러낸다. 즉, 한국 탈춤의 모든 영감과 할미는 노골적인 성 행위 퍼포먼스를 통하여 마을의 풍요와 번영을 기원하는데 비해, 하쿠산 예능의 오키나와 老女는 神佛이나 하쿠산 신을 경배하며 지역 공동체에 신의 축복을 전하는 사제의 역할을 연기한다. 이러한 비교 고찰을 통하여 본고에서는 현행 탈춤의 노골적인 성행위 퍼포먼스가 후대에 강화된 현상이며, 그 原像은 하쿠산 민속예능에서 보듯 성행위 묘사가 제의적 엄숙성을 담보하는 측면에서 보다 절제되었을 가능성을 제기하였다.
한편, 하쿠산 예능의 오키나와 노녀는 각각 따로 등장하며 극적 갈등을 동반하지 않는 경우가 대부분이다. 이에 비해 한국 탈춤의 모든 영감 할미는 부부로 등장한다. 그러나 극중에서 이들은 별거 상태로 등장하고 어렵게 재회한 후에도 할미의 가출 혹은 죽음으로 인해 파국을 맞이한다. 이렇게 모든 탈춤의 영감 할미가 부부로 등장하면서도 함께 하지 못하는 것은 애초에 이들 부부관계가 원래의 모습이 아니기 때문으로 추정된다. 예를 들어 『삼국사기』와 『삼국유사』에 실린 神話 傳承에서도 할미신은 오랫동안 영감신에게 독립된 개체로 존재했고 할미와 영감신이 함께 등장하는 것은 후대에 이르러서이다. 이러한 점에서 성적 파트너십이 희박하고 각자 독립된 영역에서 등장하는 하쿠산 민속예능의 오키나와 노녀는 탈춤 「영감․할미 마당」의 원형을 보여주고 있다고 할 수 있다.
하지만 후대로 내려오면서 한국 탈춤의 세계에서 할미신은 영감신의 처로 완전히 전락한다. 또한 일본 민속 의례의 세계에서 각기 따로 양립하던 오키나와 노녀신은 오바사마 마쓰리에서 보듯 영토를 차지하기 위한 싸움 끝에 오키나의 승리로 귀결되는 역사를 보여준다. 이렇게 영락한 할미신들의 말로는 한국 탈춤의 경우 할미의 죽음으로 나타나고, 일본 오키나 계통 예능의 경우에는 노녀신의 神體가 검은 영감신, 즉 삼바소로 교체되는 결과를 초래하였다.

영어초록

The Hakusan area and the religious sphere of Hakusan are related to the Korean culture of the ancient period, and at the same time are remarkable for producing the Okina mask. In addition, they are the secret place where the Noh play was established. It aimed to explore the original figure of mask drama and Okina (elderly man) sarugaku by finding the motif of elderly men and aged women in time-honored folk performing arts of the religious area of Hakusan and by comparing this with ‘the yard of elderly man, aged woman’ of Korean mask dramas.
The elderly man and aged woman that appear in Korean mask dramas and folk performing arts of Hakusan have a patron saint character who overcomes disasters and prays for the richness of the local community. However, the most significant difference in the two is in the aspect of their dramatic performance. Namely, all elderly men and aged women in Korean mask dramas hope for the richness and prosperity of the village through the explicit performance of sex acts. In comparison, the aged woman in Okinawa’s Hakusan artistic performances worships God and Buddha or the God of Hakusan and performs the role of a priest conveying the blessing of the patron saint of the local community. This paper posits that the explicit sex act performance of current mask dramas intensified in future generations; its original figure as seen in the folk artistic talents of Hakusan from the aspect that the description of sex acts guarantees the ritualistic seriousness that has been restrained through this comparison.
Meanwhile, the aged woman, the performing arts of Okinawa’s Hakusan appears separately, and in most cases is unaccompanied by dramatic conflict. In comparison with this, all elderly men and aged women in Korean mask dramas appear as husband and wife. But they do so in a state of separation and are confronted by difficulties such as a disappearance from home or the death of an aged woman after reuniting. This is because it is fate that the elderly man and aged woman cannot be together; the relationship of this husband and wife is not the original figure that the elderly man and aged woman in all mask dramas cannot be together in spite of the appearance as the husband and wife. The Goddess of the aged woman exists as the individual from the God of the elderly man in the transmission of myth published in “Samguksagi” and “Samgukyusa”; it is not until later that the God of the elderly man and aged woman appear together. In this respect, the sexual partnership is thin, and it may be said that the aged woman, Okinawa of Hakusan appears in the independent area to represent the original figure of the mask drama, ‘the yard of elderly man, aged woman’ .
However, the Goddess of the aged woman in the history of Korean mask dramas is degenerated as the wife of the God of the elderly man as time passes. Also, the Goddess of grandma, Okina that stands together by taking possession of indigenous territory in the world of Japanese folk rituals as seen in the Obasama-mtsuri, fights to take possession of territory, and in conclusion, shows the history resulting in the victory of Okina.
