20세기 초 아방가르드 시기 전시 디자인 연출 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on Exhibition Design Directing Characteristics Representing the Avant-garde Period in the Early 20th Century)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 최근 전시의 경향은 콘텐츠와 전시 환경의 통합적 계획을 필요로 하는 공간 경험의 전시들이 주를 이루고 있다. 대중의 문화·예술 향유 욕구는 경험을 통하여 충족되어지며, 경험적 욕구가 증가함에 따라 양질의 경험을 제공하기 위한 전시디자인 연구가 다각도로 이루어져야한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 전시 디자인의 공간 경험에 대한 연구가 활발했던 20세기 초 아방가르드 시기의 전시 디자인에 주목하고자 한다. 아방가르드 시기 대표 미술 전시들을 통해 전시디자인 특징을 시대적 측면에서 살펴보고, 동시대 현대미술 전시디자인의 공간 체험적 연출요소로 활용할 수 있는 유효한 디자인 특성을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. (연구방법) 연구의 방법은 이론적 고찰을 통해 아방가르드 전시의 특징을 분석하고 아방가르드 전시의 계획 방법, 계획 요인에 대한 문헌 연구를 실행한다. 아방가르드 시기 전시 디자인의 특성을 추출하여 공간적, 상호 관계적, 형태적 측면으로 분석하였고, 연출에 대한 세부 요인을 도출하였다. 도출된 세부 요인을 분석의 틀로 계획하여 아방가르드 시기의 대표성을 띠는 현대 미술 전시에 적용하여 새로운 공간 경험에 대한 디자인 특성과 요인을 분석하였다. (결과) 사례 분석 결과, 20세기 초 아방가르드 시기를 대표하는 전시의 전시디자인 연출 요소는 관람자와의 상호 관계적 연출 요인에 따라 영향의 차이가 있지만 구축성, 역동성, 비선형성 연출 요소에 따른 공간의 확장적 특성과 동적 시각성, 공간 인식성에 따른 형태적 연출의 응시적 특성이 가장 많은 부분 나타나고 있음을 보여준다. (결론) 본 연구는 20세기 초 아방가르드 시기에 기존의 것을 타파하고 새로운 것에 대한 실험적 욕구들이 분출되면서 전시 환경에 있어서 공간적 경험이 중요시되었음을 보여준다. 또한 전시 디자인의 연출 특성이 관람 환경과 관람 태도를 형성시킬 수 있음을 시사한다. 공간 경험을 위한 전시 디자인 연출 특성은 구축성과 역동성, 비선형성 요인을 통해 공간의 확장적 특성이 나타나야 하며, 시각 영역 계획을 통한 형태적 연출의 특성이 나타나야 한다. 이러한 결과를 통해 향후 현대 미술 전시 디자인의 전시 환경과 몰입도 높은 공간 경험을 제공하기 위한 계획의 기초 자료로서 활용하고자 한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) The recent trend of exhibitions is characterized by the exhibition focusing mainly on spatial experiences that require the integrated plan of contents and exhibition environment. Thus, this study was intended to focus on exhibition design of the avant-garde period in the early 20th century in which studies on the spatial experience of exhibition design were conducted vigorously. We intended to examine the characteristics of the exhibition design through the perspective of fine art exhibitions representative of the avant-garde period and to analyze the valid design characteristics so as to use them as the directing elements of modern art exhibition design in contemporary times. (Method) As methodology in this study, the characteristics of avant-garde exhibition was analyzed through theoretical consideration, and along with that, literature research was conducted on the planning methods and planning factors of avant-garde exhibitions. The characteristics of exhibition design in the avant-garde period were extracted and analyzed from spatial, interrelational, and morphological aspects, and the detailed factors for directing were derived. The derived detailed factors were planned as a framework for analysis and were applied to modern art exhibitions representative of the avant-garde period so as to analyze the design characteristics and factors for novel spatial experiences. (Results) The results of analysis showed that the directing elements of design for exhibitions representing the avant-garde period in the early 20th century had differences in terms of influence according to the directing factors of interrelation with the audience, but there was a preponderance of the extended characteristics of space according to constructability and dynamicity of the directing elements and nonlinear directing elements, along with the stare-like characteristics of the morphological directing according to the dynamic visuality and spatial recognition. (Conclusion) This study showed that spatial experiences was considered important in the exhibition environment as the existing ones were overthrown and experimental desire surged for new things in the avant-garde period at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition, it suggests that the directing characteristics of exhibition design could lead to formation of the viewing environment and viewing attitude. The exhibition design directing characteristics for spatial experience requires the expandable characteristics of the space to be manifested through the constructability and dynamism of factors and non-linearity factors, and furthermore, the characteristics of the morphological directing should manifest itself through visual domain planning. Aforesaid results of this study are intended to be used as basic data for the plan necessary for providing the exhibition environment of modern art exhibition design and highly immersive space experience in the period ahead.
