초록

Synthesizing the trading documents relevant to Japan in the united Silla period, the Silla relics of being engraved the existing Hyanggongyangsang(香供養象), and the records in 『Samguksagi(三國史記)』, which prohibits aristocrats from using aroma leads to frankly speaking that many kinds of Hyang-yak(香藥) were used in Silla society in those days and that there had been a culture related to various scents. As a result of the research on the basis of this, the people in the united Silla period could be found the acquisition of a skill, which makes new aroma with the combination of scents, and a trace of having been used in many aspects such as a living item of personal preference, or Hyangjang(香粧). In addition, our country could be confirmed that there had been already a culture of enjoying aroma life from commoners to aristocrats.
A research on a traditional natural scent, which has been introduced up to modern times with passing through Goryeo and Joseon from the united Silla, is a future task that will need to be expanded continuously for the development in aroma industry that is the high value-added industry. Moreover, there will be a need to contribute to the development in the business circles or even to the promotion of people's health through combining it even with the oriental medical industry such as a variety of eco-friendly beauty(美容) & cosmetic(香粧) industry, aroma-therapy, etc.
