충남 공주 지역의 음악 전통과 중고제 판소리 (Traditional Music in Chungnam and Gongju Region and Junggoje Pansori)

초록

본 논의는 충남 공주지역을 중심으로 중고제 판소리 발달의 사회적 배경과 그 내용, 관련 명창을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 충남 공주는 330년간 충청감영이 있었던 도시이며, 충남지역의 정치, 행정, 문화, 경제의 중심지였다. 따라서 공주지역을 중심으로 판소리는 물론 많은 전통예술이 활발히 연행, 전승되었으며, 그 수요도 많았을 것임을 짐작할 수 있다.
따라서 본고에서는 충청의 전통문화중심도시인 공주지역을 중심으로 전통음악에 대한 지역적 배경과 중고제 판소리 명창들의 활동, 근현대 판소리 전승 양상을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 중고제 판소리의 전승과 관련하여 충남 공주지역이 가지는 위상과 역할을 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 공주는 전통문화예술의 집산지이자 판소리 유통의 지역적 매개 역할을 했기 때문이다.
먼저 전통음악 향유의 중심 역할을 했던 공주지역의 위상에 대해 살펴보았으며, 공주의 상층음악과 민속문화 속에서 판소리가 어떻게 향유되었는지를 논의하였다. 한편 근대시기 공주지역의 패트런으로서 공주 갑부인 김갑순을 다루었고, 그의 영향으로 이루어진 극장과 공연예술에 대해 살폈다.
다음으로 공주지역과 연관되는 중고제 명창들의 활약과 의미를 약술했다. 시기상으로 가장 이른 명창인 고수관으로부터 황해천, 정춘풍, 황호통, 박상도, 김석창, 이동백, 김창룡, 박동진까지 살폈다. 이들 명창들은 판소리사에 깊은 영향을 끼친 인물들로, 공주에서 태어난 인물 혹은 공주지역을 중심으로 활동한 인물들이다. 특히 이동백, 김창룡이 살던 집터를 고증하였으며, 황호통과 연관된 지역도 답사하고 관련 내용을 정리한 것이 성과라 하겠다.
이러한 연구를 통해 충남 공주지역이 중고제 판소리의 전승과 발전에 많은 영향을 끼쳤고, 현대 박동진 명창에 이르기까지 중고제 명창들의 활약과 전승에 중요한 지역이었음을 알 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to examine the social background, its contents of the Junggoje pansori development around the Chungnam and Gongju region, and the related master singers of pansori. Gongju, Chungnam is the city where Chungcheong Province Office has been located for 400 years and the center of politics, administration, culture and economy of Chungnam region. Therefore, it is assumed that many traditional arts including pansori have been performed and transmitted around Gongju region and their demand has been great.
Therefore, in this article, the regional background of the traditional music, the activities of master singers of Junggoje pansori, the pattern of modern and contemporary Junggoje pansori transmission around the Gongju region, the center of traditional culture city. To do that, the status and role of the Chungnam Gongju region related to the transmission of Junggoje pansori were examined because Gongju is the distribution center of the traditional culture and arts and service as regional intermediary of the pansori distribution.
First, the status of Gongju region, which has played the pivotal role of enjoyment of traditional music was examined, and how the pansori has been enjoyed in the music for upper class and the folk culture was discussed. In the meantime, Kim Gab-Soon, a millionaire in Gongju was dealt as a patron in Gongju during the modern times and the theater and the performance arts made by his influence were examined.
Next, the activities and meaning of the master singers of Junggoje pansori related to Gongju region were outlined. The master singers from Goh Soo-Gwan, who is the earliest master singer, to Hwang Hae-Chun, Jung Choon-Poong, Hwang Ho-Tong, Park Sang-Doh, Kim Suk-Chang, Park Dong-Jin were examined. These master singers are those who left the deepest influence in the history of pansori, were not only born and lived in Gongju but also engaged in the activities around Gongju region, which was the distribution center of culture, and the their activities were discovered and arranged. Particularly, the house sites where Lee Dong-Baek and Kim Chang-Ryong were ascertained and investigating the region related to Hwang Ho-Tong and arranging the related details are the outcome of this study.
Through this study, it was observed that the Chungnam Gongju region had lot of influence on the transmission and the development of Junggoje pansori and is the important region for the activities and the transmission of master singers to current master singer Park Dong-Jin.
