수원화성국제연극제의 디자인 현황 및 제안 (Design Case Studies and Suggestions on Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival)

초록

오늘날 문화는 고부가 가치의 산업으로 문화적 경쟁력이 곧 국가의 경쟁력으로 자리매김하고 있는 추세이다. 이러한 추세 속에서 지역의 문화적 정체성을 반영하는 다양한 지역 축제가 활성화되고 있다. 1996년에 시작된 수원화성국제연극제는 수원화성의 오랜 역사적 전통과 문화유산을 현대 연극과 접목시킨 측면에서 연극적 의미를 지니고 있다. 수원화성국제연극제는2008년부터 수원화성과 정조임금의 정신과 역사적 사실들을 기본 모티브로 디자인한 포스터ㆍ웹사이트ㆍ팜플렛 등의 디자인 작업이 행해지고 있다. 그러나 세계적 축제인 에딘버러 페스티발, 베니스 비엔날레에 비하여 디자인은 체계화되어 있지 않은 실정이다.
본 연구의 목적은 수원 화성의 역사가 어우러진 수원화성국제연극제에 관한 디자인 현황을 연구ㆍ분석하고 연극제의 디자인 개선방향을 제시하는 것이다. 본연구의 주요내용은 1) 연극제의 현황 및 의의, 2) 디자인 현황 및 사례연구, 3) 국내ㆍ외 대표적 축제의 디자인 현황 및 사례연구, 4) 수원화성국제연극제의 디자인비평 및 제안 등을 중심으로 구성한다.
수원화성국제연극제 디자인 현황연구는 2008-2011년동안의 홈페이지 디자인, 포스터, 로고타입, 어플리케이션 등을 연구ㆍ분석한다. 국내ㆍ외 대표적 축제의디자인 현황 및 사례연구는 대표적 연극제인 에딘버러페스티발, 아비뇽 페스티발과 베니스 비엔날레와 광주비엔날레의 디자인 현황을 연구ㆍ분석한다. 이러한 다각적인 축제의 디자인 사례 연구를 바탕으로 수원화성국제연극제의 디자인 현황을 분석한 후 연극제 디자인방향 제안 및 활용 가능성을 제안한다.
수원화성국제연극제의 디자인에서 가장 고려해야 할부분은 디자인의 총체성을 위한 디자인 시스템과 매뉴얼을 작성하여 홈페이지ㆍ그래픽 모티브ㆍ로고ㆍ어플리케이션 등의 디자인을 체계적으로 관리하는 것이다.
디지털 시대의 새로운 기술(전용 웹 채널ㆍ어플ㆍSNS ㆍQR코드 등)을 활용한 홈페이지 디자인과 그래픽모티브를 바탕으로 캐릭터를 포함한 다양한 디자인 어플리케이션을 제작하는 것이 시대적으로 필요하다. 통합된 홈페이지를 중심으로 한 수원화성국제연극제의체계적인 디자인은 문화 콘텐츠화, 문화상품의 브랜드포트폴리오 구축 등으로 다양한 영역에 활용이 가능할것이다. 이러한 연극제의 디자인은 연극제의 콘텐츠DB구축, 디자인을 통한 연극제 홍보, 연극제의 디자인문화 상품의 브랜드 포트폴리오 구축, 디자인문화의다양한 산업적 활용 가능성, 수원시의 이미지 강화 및산업적 경쟁력 확보 등을 가져올 것으로 예상한다. 이러한 연구는 수원 화성의 역사적 전통과 디자인의 문화적 정체성을 상호 연관하여 다양한 영역의 문화 콘텐츠로써의 활용가능성을 제안한다.
본 연구는 21세기 디지털 시대의 문화 원형으로 수원화성의 역사적 중요성과 그것의 현대적으로 활용한축제와 그 축제에 따른 다양한 시각적 문화콘텐츠를개발하여 다양한 문화적 가치를 가진 축제의 정체성과차별화에 기여할 것이다.

영어초록

Today’s culture as high value-added industries is more important globally. With this trend, various local festivals that reflect the cultural identity have been created. Started in 1996, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival combines Suwon Hwaseong which based on a long historical tradition & cultural heritage and modern theatres.
Since 2008, the basic motifs which are based on historical fact the spirit of the King Jung-Jo and Suwon Hwaseong is designed for Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival design such as posters, sites, brochures, etc. In comparison to international festivals, Edinburgh international and Venice Biennale, however, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival design system is not well organized.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the direction of design improvement & design usability of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival with the analysis of the design status of the festival.
The main contents of this study are as follows: 1)status and cultural significance of festival, 2) design status and case studies of festivals, 3) design status and case studies of worldwide international and domestic festivals, 4) design criticisms and suggestions of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival For the status of festival design, this study aims at analyzing festival design that has been partly done from 2008 to 2011 by a design firm.
For design status and case studies of worldwide international and domestic festivals, this research analyzes the status of the design for the Edinburgh Festival, Avignon Festival, Venice Biennale and the Kwangju Biennale. After analyzing the current status of the festival designs, based on the diverse case studies, this study suggests the proposal of design usability of the Suwon Hwaseong festival. The most important consideration in the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival design is how the over all design will be coordinated with the totality of design system and manual. In addition, it is necessary to create a variety of design applications based on site design and graphic motifs utilizing new technologies in the digital age (web channelㆍapplicationㆍSNSㆍQR codeㆍetc.) Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival’s well organized design with integrated homepage design would probably be utilized in various area of cultural contents design,brand portfolio and so on.
The organized design of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival is expected to have many positive effects. Some of major positive effects are: creation of a design database, public relations through design, brand portfolio system of cultural goods, product usability of design, the brand image of enhancement and industrial competitiveness of Suwon. These studies, the historical tradition of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress’s and lt’s cultural identity of design interrelated, suggests the possibility of practical use as cultural contents in a variety of areas.
This study will contribute to the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress International Theatre Festival’s identity and differentiation with diverse cultural values, developing.
the historical importance of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress as cultural archetypes in the digital era of the 21st century, utilizing it as a modern festival, and a variety of visual & cultural contents of the festival
