초록

The objective of this study is to examine effects of IT users’ shadow work on key constructs from protection motivation theory to predict password-based security behavior. Specifically, this study develops shadow work construct and tests its effects on response cost, attitude toward password change, and intention to delay password change. This study collects survey data from 219 individual users in order to test the research model using partial least squares. This study found that shadow work positively influenced both response cost and intention to delay password change, while it was not statistically related to attitude toward password change. Furthermore, this study showed that response cost was significantly related to both attitude toward password change and intention to delay password change. Based upon the findings, this study can offer a new research perspective to relevant research for understanding password-based information protection behavior and also it provides empirical evidences for practitioners who are interested in information security.
