중국 창조신화와 우주생성론의 관계 － 반고(盤古)신화와 『회남자(淮南子)』를 중심으로－ (A Study on the Relationship between Chinese Creation Myth and Cosmogony: Focusing on the Pan-gu(盤古) myth and Huainanzi(淮南子))

초록

이 글은 반고(盤古)신화와 『회남자(淮南子)』를 중심으로 고대 중국의 창조신화와 한대(漢代) 우주생성론의 상호 연관성을 검토하는 것을 목표로 한다. 역사 이래로 인류가 던진 근원적 질문 가운데 천지만물의 기원에 관한 물음은 가장 원초적이면서도 근원적 성격을 갖는다. 창조신화인 반고신화와 『회남자』의 우주생성론 모두 이러한 문제에 착안하여, 최초의 혼돈 상태, 창조와 생성의 근거, 그리고 최초의 혼돈 상태로부터 구체적 세계로의 생성과정 등의 문제를 다룬다. 최초의 혼돈 상태에 대해서, 반고신화는 달걀의 비유를 통해 혼돈 상태를 묘사하고, 『회남자』는 혼돈미분의 기 덩어리이자 생성의 근원적 상태로 설명한다. 이러한 혼돈으로부터 생성작용을 이끄는 근원적 힘에 대해 반고신화는 이미 혼돈 상태에 창조의 근원적 힘이 내재되어 있다고 보고, 『회남자』는 생성의 본원으로서의 ‘도’가 기 덩어리 상태에서 생성작용을 시작한다고 설명한다. 마지막으로 반고신화와 『회남자』 모두 창조 또는 발생의 과정은 각 단계별로 모두 자연적 질서를 함축하고 있는 저절로 그렇게 이루어지는 것으로 이해한다.
이상의 논의를 통해 반고신화와 『회남자』의 창조와 우주발생의 관점은 이론적 수준과 사유의 차이가 존재한다는 측면에서 이론적 전환의 과정이라 볼 수 있다. 다만 천지의 기원을 묻는 근원적 질문은 신화적 상상력과 철학적 사유의 두 측면에서 그 답을 동시에 모색 가능하다는 점에서, 반고신화와 『회남자』의 우주생성론은 신화적론적 세계관과 철학적 세계관의 공존의 가능성을 열어준다고 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This article aims to examine the interrelationship between the creation myth of ancient China and the theory of Han Dynasty cosmogony, focusing on the Pan-gu myth and the Huainanzi. Among the fundamental questions posed by mankind since history, the question of the origin of all things has the most primitive and fundamental character. Both the Pan-gu myth, a creative myth, and the cosmological theory of the Huainanzi focus on these issues, dealing with issues such as the first state of chaos, the basis for creation and creation, and the process of generation from the first state of chaos to the concrete world. For the first chaos state, the Pan-gu myth describes the chaos state through the analogy of eggs, and the huainanzi describes it as a chaotic Qi(氣) mass and a fundamental state of production. As for the fundamental power that drives generation from such chaos, Pan-gu myth believes that the fundamental power of creation is already inherent in the state of chaos, and the Huainanzi explains that the 'Dao(道)' as the origin of generation begins generation in the state of energy. Finally, both Pan-gu myth and the Huainanzi understand that the process of creation or occurrence takes place by itself, which implies a natural order at each stage.
Through the above discussion, the creation and the perspective of space generation of Pan-gu myth and the Huainanzi can be seen as a process of theoretical transformation in terms of the difference between the theoretical level and thinking. However, since the fundamental question about the origin of heaven and earth can be found simultaneously in two aspects: mythological imagination and philosophical thinking, the theory of cosmic generation of Ban-gu myth and Huainanzi opens up the possibility of coexistence between the mythological and philosophical worldviews.
