고려후기･조선전기 한일관계사 연구의 회고와 전망 (A retrospective and prospect for the study of Korea-Japan relations from the late Koryo dynasty to the early Joseon dynasty)

초록

『한일관계사연구』(1~58)에 수록된 고려후기･조선전기 한일관계사 연구 성과와 특징을 정리하였다. 먼저 고려후기 한일관계사는 왜구 문제가 주요한 연구 주제였다. 그러나 아직도 이 주제에 대해서는 한일 학자들 사이에서 많은 논란이 있다. 한편 여원연합군의 일본정벌과 상호인식에 대한 연구는 전혀 없었다. 따라서 고려후기 한일관계사 연구는 앞으로 왜구의 주체에 대한 인식의 차이를 좁히고, 연구주제를 다양화할 필요성이 있다.
조선전기 한일관계사 연구는 소수의 학자들에 의해서 행하여 졌다. 이 때문에 다른 시기에 비해 연구가 많지 않았다. 조선전기 한일관계사 연구의 특징은 李藝와 金誠一 등 외교 인물과 『해동제국기』에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어졌다는 점이다. 그러나 조일간의 무역에 대한 연구는 거의 행하여지 않았으며, 제도사적인 면에 치우친 한계가 있었다. 倭人의 統制와 接待, 向化･受職･受圖書倭人에 대한 연구는 비교적 많이 행하여졌다. 그러나 주로 한국 측의 자료만을 가지고 연구한 한계가 있었다. 또한 삼포왜란 이후의 한일관계는 임진왜란의 발발 배경과 通交違反者를 연구하는데 매우 중요한 주제지만 이에 대한 연구는 거의 없었다.
조선전기 한일관계사 연구를 활성화하기 위해서는 많은 연구자들이 다양한 주제를 연구할 수 있는 분위기를 조성할 필요가 있다. 또한 한일 학자 간에 견해의 차이를 극복하기 위해서는 공동 연구가 필요하며, 양국의 사료를 비교 분석하여 연구의 객관성을 높여야 한다. 그리고 연구의 시각을 동아시아 세계로 확대하고, 女眞･琉球 등 주변의 여러 나라와 비교연구를 통하여 한일관계 특징을 보다 더 명확하게 규명할 필요가 있다.

The results and characteristics of the Korea-Japan relations studies from the late Koryo dynasty to the early Joseon dynasty in “the Korea-Japan Historical Review” (vol. 1 to 58) are summarized as follows. First, in the late Koryo period, Japanese pirates was a major research topic. But, there is still much controversy among Korean and Japanese scholars on this subject. On the other hand, there was no study on the Japanese conquest of the Mongol Yuan and Koryo Allied Forces and their mutual perception. Therefore, the study of the Korea-Japan relationship in the Koryo dynasty needs to narrow the gap of perception of the identity of Japanese pirates and to diversify the subjects of the study.
Next, the study of the Korea-Japan relationship in the early Joseon dynasty was conducted by a small number of scholars. Because of this, there were not many studies compared to other periods. The characteristics of the study on Korea-Japan relations of this period are that the research on diplomatic characters such as Lee Yeh and Kim Sung Il and the book entitled “Haedongjegukgi” were actively conducted. However, little research has been done on the trade between the two countries, and even that has been limited to institutional aspects.
The issue of controlling and hosting Japanese, naturalized Japanese problems, and the grant of government posts and books to Japanese have been studied so far. But, there were limitations in studying mainly data from the Korean side. Also, the relationship between Korea and Japan after the Japanese riots at three ports in 1510 is a very important topic for studying the background of the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 and violators of friendly relations, but there have been few studies on it.
In order to revitalize Korea-Japan affiliated research, it is necessary to create an atmosphere in which many researchers can study various subjects. In addition, in order to overcome the differences of opinions between Korean and Japanese scholars, joint research is necessary and objectivity of research should be enhanced by comparing and analyzing the related data of both countries. It is necessary to clarify the characteristics of Korea － Japan relations more clearly by expanding the viewpoint of research into the East Asian world and by conducting comparative studies with neighboring countries such as Jurchen and Ryukyu island.
