현대판화 내 분류들과 ‘원화 판화’의 차이 연구 (A Study on the Difference between the Classifications in Contemporary Printmaking and ⸲Original image Printmaking’)

초록

국내 판화시장에서 복제품들의 영역이 더욱 확대되고 있고, 가격도 작가의 유명세와 기법의 난이도 등이 복합적으로 작용하여 책정되고 있지만, 상대적으로 판화전문 작가들의 작품은 제작에 기울인 노력과 시간만큼 인지도가 높지 않다. 본 연구의 목적은 판화전문 작가들의 작품들을 ‘원화 판화’라고 명명하고 복제품 등 기존 판화 영역들과 차이점을 분석하여 그들을 재조명하는 것이다. 연구방법은 오리지널 판화와 복제품 등에 대한 선행 규정을 살펴본 후, 다양한 이론, 작품들과 비교분석하여 판화전문 작가 작품의 주요 특성들을 추출하는 것이다. 연구수행 결과 첫 번째, 원화 판화는 기존 회화를 복제하는 것이 아니라 작가의 창의성이 해당 표현기법의 속성에 함유되어 직접적으로 표현된 원 이미지가 판화 내에 있었고, 복제품에 비해 기법적 가치도 부각되었다. 두 번째, 기존에는 에디션 기호가 담당하던 작품마다의 차이를 작가의 개입에 의해 각기 다른 에디션으로 제작된 원화 판화가 더 심화시킬 수 있었다. 또한 회화처럼 각 에디션마다 독립적인 원본성을 취득시킬 수 있었다. 세 번째, 원화 판화의 정해진 판과 시간 내 차이 있는 작품들의 지연적 생산과정은 작가나 관객에 의해 가변적으로 작품이 완성되는 일부 포스트모더니즘 작품의 제작공정과 유사하였다. 복제되지만 각기 다른 작품들은 판화작품 수요자들에게 ‘나만의 것’이라는 새로운 소장적 가치를 제공할 수 있었다. 이 세 가지 주장으로 기존 판화 영역과는 다른 판화전문 작가만의 ‘원화 판화’를 주장하였고, 에디션 기호의 변경 논의도 제기하였다. 본 연구를 통해 판화전문 작가만의 위상 확립, 대중들의 판화 인식 개선, 현대판화 양식의 다변화를 도모할 수 있었다.

영어초록

In the domestic print market, the scope of reproductions is expanding, and the price is set by a combination of the popularity of the artist and the difficulty of the technique. However, the work of professional printmaking artists is not as well known as the effort and time spent on production. The purpose of this study is to name the works of artists specializing in printmaking as ‘original image printmaking’ and to re-examine them by analyzing differences from existing printmaking areas such as replicas. The research method is to extract the main characteristics of the works of artists specializing in printmaking by examining the preceding regulations for original print and reproductions, and then comparing and analyzing them with various theories and works. As a result of the study, first, the original image printmaking was directly expressed in the original image because the artist’s creativity was contained in the properties of the expression technique, and the technical value was highlighted compared to the reproduction. Second, the difference between the works previously handled by the edition numbering could be further deepened by the artist’s intervention in the original image printmaking. In addition, like painting, it was possible to acquire independent originality for each edition. Third, the delayed production process of works that differ in time from the fixed edition of the original image printmaking was similar to the production process of some postmodernism art works in which the work was variably completed by the artist or audience. Although reproduced, different works were able to provide consumers of printmaking with a new collection value of “my own.” These three arguments argued for ‘original image printmaking’ only by printmaking artists who are different from the existing printmaking area, and also raised discussions on changing the edition numbering. Through this study, it was possible to establish the status of only professional printmaking artists, improve the public’s perception of printmaking, and diversify modern printmaking styles.
