초록

기존의 공공미술은 미술의 영역에 제한되고 있었다.
하지만 이보다 더 사회참여적인 방법이 없는가의 고민이 이번 작업의 시작이었다. 일반 대중들을 위하여순수한 미술작업에 국한되지 않고 협업의 범위를 확대하여, 더욱 시민들과 호흡하며 사회에 기여하는 공공적인 미술의 형태를 모색하고자 하였다. 이에 본인은 사회공헌으로서의 작가 참여라는 ‘안양역 기부계단프로젝트<생명-나비-4차산업>’에 동참하게 되었다.
이는 단조로운 지하철 계단에 아름다운 예술작품과음악을 흐르게 하여 계단이용을 유도하고, 이용자에따른 기부금을 적립하여 이웃에 환원하도록 하는 시스템의 계단이다. 공공기관인 안양시가 추진하고 효성그룹의 시설비 및 기부 적림금 후원 그리고 철도청의장소제공 운영이라는 협업으로 이 프로젝트를 추진할때, 디자인의 역할은 매우 중요하다. 안양시는 기존정책으로 예술, 인문도시를 지향하고 있어 기존의 디자인과 차별되는 영역으로 실제 작품성 있는 작가의 작품을 적용하고자 하였다. 이에 안양시는 도시의 상징적인 장소에 어울리는 작가를 채택하고자 하여 나비작가 김현정(Diane Kim)을 선정했다. 그리고 본인은디지털을 기반으로 LED를 작업방식에 적용한 작품을메카트로닉스(Mechatronics) 전문회사 문화예감 기술팀과 협업하여 제작하였다. 이러한 작업과정은 4차 산업혁명 시대의 코드인 디지털과 문화의 융합으로 미술의 영역을 확장시킬 수 있는 시도이다.
이번 공공미술 작품은 일반적인 도시디자인의 조형참여가 아닌 살아있는 기부 시스템으로서, 센서와 디지털 광학기술에 기반하여 예술작품을 계단이라는 물리적 공간에서 SNS상의 디지털적 공간으로 확대, 재생산시키고 기업의 지속적인 기부를 유도하는 결과로나타나게 된다. 이러한 안양역의 기부계단(부제 : 나비계단)은 사회공헌에 직접적인 역할까지를 하며, 기술과 예술의 융합을 보여주는 4차 산업시대 공공미술의 새로운 방향이라 할 수 있겠다.
2017년 다보스포럼에서 4차 산업혁명을 ‘디지털 혁명에 기반하여 물리적 공간, 디지털적 공간 및 생물학적인 공간의 경계가 희석되는 기술 융합의 시대’로 정의했다. 이런 의미로 볼 때, 이번 프로젝트는 예술가가 조형미와 디자인을 제공하는 방식을 벗어나 일차적으로는 기술과 융합할 수 있고, 다양한 기관과 기업의 후원 및 협력을 통해 사회공헌 활동에 직접적으로참여하는 작품을 제작할 수 있으며, 첨단센서 기술, 지능화된 카운터 등의 기술 적용으로 4차 산업시대에부합하는 작품의 형태를 보여준다. 앞으로 공공미술의역할과 범위가 확대되고, 다양한 유형의 예술로 사회가 더욱 풍요로워지길 기대한다.

영어초록

The existing public art was limited to the field of art. However, this work was started from a question of whether there was more social participation. For the general public, I tried to find a new form of public art that contributes to society by expanding the scope of collaboration not only to pure art work, but also to breathe with citizens.
Therefore, I participated in ‘Anyang Station Donation Stairs Project' which is participation for social contribution as a artist.
The project name is <Life - Butterfly - Fourth Industry>, which is a step of system that induces the use of stairs by flowing beautiful artwork and music on the monotonous subway stairs, accumulating donations by users and returning them to neighbors. The role of design is very important when the project is pursued by Anyang City, a public organization, and the cooperation of the Hyosung Group's facility expenses, donation support fund and the location of the Railway Agency. Anyang City aims to be an arts and humanities city with its existing policy, and seeks to apply the works of artists with actual works as an area differentiating from existing designs. Thus, Anyang City selected Kim Hyun-jung(Diane Kim), a butterfly artist, whose work style and motif corresponds to the 4th industry in order to adopt a artist who is suitable for the symbolic place of the city. So I made the work of the theme of 'Life- Butterfly - 4th Industry', which applied LED to the working method based on digital, as public art by collaborating with technology field.
And I made a work that applied LED to the working method based on digital and collaborated with a technical team of a mechatronics company, Munwhayegam, This process is an attempt to expand the field of art by the fusion of digital and culture, the code of the fourth industrial revolution era.
This public art work is not only a participation of general urban design but also a living donation system. It is based on sensor and digital optical technology, and enlarges and reproduces artist's works from the physical space of stairs to the digital space of SNS. As a result. The donation stairs of the Anyang Station (subtitle: the butterfly stairs) play a direct role in social contribution and are a new direction of public art in the 4th industrial era showing the fusion of art and technology.
At the Davos Forum in 2017, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is defined as "the era of technology convergence where the boundaries of physical space, digital space and biological space are diluted based on the digital revolution". In this point of view, this project is a project in which an artist can go beyond providing way of formative beauty and design and can fuse with technology in the first place, and participate directly in social contribution activities through sponsorship and cooperation of various organizations and corporations And it shows the shape of the works that correspond to the 4th industrial age by applying the technology of advanced sensor technology and intelligent counter.
In the future, I hope that the role and scope of public art will expand, and society will be enriched with various types of arts.
