구매기업의 상생활동이 공급기업의 관계인지와 역량개발에 미치는 영향에 대한 실증적 연구 (The Effects of Korea’s Unique Coexistence Management by Buying Firm on Supplying Firm’s Relational Goodwill toward Its Capability Development)

초록

본 연구는 한국적 공급사슬관리의 주요 과제로 떠오른 구매기업의 상생활동에 주목하여, (1) 상생활동의 본질에 부합하는 구성개념의 하위차원성을 제안하여 상생활동 개념을 정립하고, (2) 상생활동이 공급기업의 구매기업에 대한 주요 관계인지적 요인인 ‘신뢰’와 ‘공급사슬 동일시’를 높이는지 실증하며, (3) 상생활동과 그 성과 간 관계를 공급기업의 관계인 지적 요인 (신뢰, 공급사슬 동일시)이 매개하는지 실증하여 상생활동의 효과성에 대한 연구 결과를 풍부하게 하고자 한다.
본 연구는 국내 108개 제조 기업으로부터 수집한 자료를 구조방정식 모형으로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 실증결과는 (1) 상생활동의 주요 차원성인 구매기업의 공급기업에 대한 ‘소통 및 평가의 체계화’와 ‘위험 및 보상의 공유’가 공급기업의 구매기업에 대한 ‘신뢰’를 이끌고, (2) ‘신뢰’는 구매기업 주도 공급사슬에 대한 공급기업의 ‘공급사슬 동일시’를 이끌며, (3) ‘공급사슬 동일시’는 공급기업의 ‘역량개발’을 유도함을 보여준다. 또한, 실증결과는 (4) 공급기업의‘신뢰’가 구매기업의 ‘상생활동’과 공급기업의‘공급사슬 동일시’간 관계를 매개하며, (5) ‘공급사슬 동일시’는 다시 ‘신뢰’와 ‘역량개발’간 관계를 매개함을 보여준다.
본 연구의 주요 학문적 가치는 지금까지 이론만 정립된 ‘공급사슬 동일시’라는 관계인지적 요인이 한국 특유의 공급사슬 환경에서 실존하며, ‘신뢰’와 ‘역량개발’간 관계의 매개변수임을 확인하였다는 것이다. 주요 실무적 가치는 구매기업의 상생활동이 공급기업의 행동에 직접적 영향을 미치는 개념이라기보다는 공급기업과 구매기업과의 관계를 변화시켜 궁극적으로 공급기업의 변화를 유도하는 개념임을 설명한다는 점이다.

영어초록

This study focuses on Korea‘s unique ’coexistence management’ concept, which has become vital to managing supply chain relationships in Korean industries. This study aims to contribute to the body of knowledge in ‘coexistence management’ in particular and supply chain management (SCM) in general by (1) theoretically suggesting several of critical dimensions of the Korea’s unique ‘coexistence management’concept led by buying firms in consideration of the very nature of coexistence, (2) empirically testing whether buying firm’s ‘coexistence management’ help supplying firm develop relational goodwill toward buying firm --‘trust’ and ‘supply chain identity salience’, and (3) confirming if the relationship between buying firm’s ‘coexistence management’ and supplying firm’s capability development is mediated by relational goodwill.
An empirical test is performed on the data collected from 108 Korean manufacturers, utilizing structural equation modeling. The test results indicate: (1) buying firm’s‘systematized communication and evaluation’with/of supplier and ‘risk and reward sharing’with supplier , both of which are critical dimensions of coexistence management, positively affect supplying firm’s trust; (2) trust, in turn, help develop supplying firm’s supply chain identity salience; (3) supply chain identity salience then facilitates the supplying firm’s ‘capability development’. Furthermore, (4) trust plays a mediating role in the relationship between buying firm’s coexistence management and supplying firm’s supply chain identification salience, and (5) supply chain identification salience successively mediates the trust-capability development link.
A noteworthy research implication of this study is that it confirms the existence of supply chain identification salience in Korea’s unique supply chain structure —so far it has lacked empirical evidence on the presence of that theoretical concept since it was first conceptualized in mid 2000s. A major managerial implication is that the concept of coexistence management is strategic and social in nature, rather than tactical and contractual, in that it cannot lead directly supplying firm’s strategic change (i.e., capability development); instead, coexistence management motivates supplying firm to develop its capability only via building trust and supply chain identity salience.
