초록

이 연구에서는 무속신화에 담긴 한국의 신(神) 관념을 살피고자 하였다. 무속신화에 있어 신이란 어떤 존재이고 신성의 본질은 무엇인지를 단면적으로 드러내고자 하였다. 특히 신과 인간의 친연관계에 주목하여, 한국 신화에 있어 신과 인간이 서로 어떻게 통하는 존재인지를 살펴보았다.
한국 신화의 원형적인 신 관념은 창세신화를 통해 살펴볼 수 있다. 창세신화는 서로 혼합 상태에 있었던 하늘과 땅이 갈라지면서 인간세상이 열렸다고 하거니와, 인간세상이 본래 하늘과 땅의 신성과 연속된 세계임을 전하고 있다. 그리고 창세신화는 인간이 하늘로부터 지상에 내려와 성장한 존재라고 함으로써, 인간이 그 안에 하늘의 신성을 내재한 존재임을 부각하고 있다. 실제로 창세신화 속의 인간은 신과의 차별성보다는 동질성이 더 두드러진다. 신과 인간은 서로 자연스레 소통하면서 경쟁하며, 또는 결혼의 형태로 결합한다. 누가 인간이고 신인지의 구별이, 어디까지가 인간이고 어디부터가 신인지의 구별이 불투명하다. 이와 같은 신과 인간의 태생적 동질성과 소통 가능성은 한국적 신관의 원형을 이룬다고 할 수 있다.
수많은 무속신화는 인간이 그 안에 신성을 지니고 있음을 전제하면서 서사를 전개한다. 대다수 무속신화는 인간이 신으로 좌정하게 된 내력을 전하는 방식으로 구성되거니와, 그 신성은 외부로부터 오는 것이 아니라 사람의 안에 있던 것이 자연스레 발현되는 것으로 설정되어 있다. 인간이 존재의 근원에 가 닿을 때 신성이 발현된다는 것이 주요 신화에 깃든 관념이다.
하지만 모든 인간이 신성을 발현하는 것은 아니라는 점을 주목할 만하다. 인간이 지닌 신성이란 내면 깊숙이 깃들어 있는 것으로서, 인간은 그 신성이 가리어지고 억눌린 채로 반(反) 신성의 길을 갈 가능성이 상존한다. 어둡고 무겁게 뒤틀린 신성으로서의 ‘귀(鬼)’의 길로 나아갈 수도 있고, 신성이 소멸된 존재로서의 ‘물(物)’의 길로 나아갈 수도 있다. 저승할망이 된 동해용궁따님애기는 전자의 예가 되며, 청지네와 말똥버섯이 된 은장애기 놋장애기 자매는 후자의 예가 된다.
한국 신화에 담긴 신과 인간의 동질성 관념은 다른 어떤 신화체계에서보다도 뚜렷하고 또 광범위한 것으로 여겨진다. 하지만 그것을 세상의 모든 존재에 대한 동질성 인식으로 확장해서 적용하는 데는 신중을 기할 필요가 있다. 한 예로, 한국 신화에 있어 인간과 동물의 관계는 동질성보다 이질성이 부각된 것으로 여겨지는 면이 있다. 신과 인간, 동물과 식물, 사물 등을 포괄하여 존재의 속성과 관계에 대한 인식체계를 보다 폭넓고 세심하게 살피는 것은 차후의 중요한 연구과제가 된다.

영어초록

This study aimed to comprehend Korean idea of god through shaman myths. The existence of god and nature of divine nature was revealed through shaman myths. Especially, how the human being and god can get along each other in Korean myth was comprehended focusing on the relationship between god and human being.
The prototypical idea of god in Korean myth can be viewed through the creation myth. The creation myth shows that the human world is original series with the divine nature between the sky and the land since the human world held by dividing the sky and the land which were mixing status. In addition, the creation myth shows that the human being is the existence who was grown up from the sky, so the fact embossed the human being who has the divine nature of the sky. In fact, the human being in the creation myth has more homogeneity than discrimination with god. The god and human being naturally communicate with each other while in competition, or are combined in the form of marriage. The distinction that who is the god or human being is ambiguous. The viviparous homogeneity and possibility of communication between the god and human being can be said that achieved the prototype of Korean idea of god.
Many shaman myths develop the narration on the assumption that the human being has divine nature. Most of the shaman myths were created by the method to deliver the history how the human being can be seated as god, and the divine nature was set to be expressed spontaneously from inside of the human being but from the outside. The main idea in the myth is that the divine nature is revealed when the human being approaches the origin of existence.
However, it is noticeable that all human beings do not reveal the divine nature. The divine nature of human being is nestled deep inside so it is possible for the human being to be the way of anti-divine nature by hiding and suppressing that divine nature. They could go to the way of evil spirit as the dark and heavily distorted divine nature or they could go to the way of animals and plants as the existence without divine nature. The princess of the East Sea who became the grandmother of otherworld is former example and the Eunjangaegi sisters who became the blue centipede and panaeolus are the latter case.
The notion of homogeneity between god and human being in korean myths is thought to be distinct and comprehensive more than any other myth system. But it pays close attention to apply the notion by extending as the recognition of homogeneity about all existences in the world. For example, the heterogeneity might have been highlighted more than homogeneity in the relationship between the human being and animal in Korean myths. To research the awareness system about the attribute of existence and relationship including the god and human being, the animal and plant, the things etc. more carefully and widely must be the research topic in the future.
