초록

This is an analysis of Soviet army’s absurdity during Afghan War(1979-1989) reflected in Svetlana Aleksievich’s(1948-) Zinky Boys.(1989) One of the world-wide well known Belorussia female writer’s, Novel Laureate for Literature of 2015, Aleksievich’s Zinky Boys is a collection of interviews with Afghan War participants: soldiers in different ranks and specialties and their family members. Comparatively speaking with the cruelty of the War, the Soviet army’s absurdity is neither a dominant subject, nor plays significant role surpassing all other sjuzhets. But the absurdity committed by the Soviet army is deep and unbreakable current flowing underneath the subconsciousness of almost all interviewee’s witness. Thus it would not be an over exaggeration stating that the understanding of absurdity from Soviet army is one indispensible key to fathom Aleksievich’s given work.
Various aspects of absurdity have been analyzed in this paper, including mal preparations for the War, lack of military supplies and improper old goods, physical abuses and exploiting friendly soldiers, unsuitable medical system, political deceptions related to the war itself, heroism and patriotism.
This study will shed a light on the aesthetic function of the subject Soviet army’s absurdity that unites various and incongruous interviews: there flows this subject as a strong current underneath the surface of all witnesses from interviewees. The result of this paper hopefully will provide some meaning to the Soviet soldiers killed in action and will pacify the war veterans who are struggling with not only physical uneasiness resulted from injuries, but also mental agonies caused by the war trauma. This anticipation will be accomplished by the fact that the causes of loosing the war and of murdering do not belong to the war participants, but to the Soviet army and Soviet government behind of it.
