해방후 고통의 재현과 병리성 -반공체제 속 ‘부랑자’와 ‘비국민’- (Literary Representation of Pain after the Liberation and Pathology -‘Vagabond’ and ‘Non-Citizens’ under the Anti-communism System-)

이 연구에서는 전후 반공 체제 하에서 개인의 실존적 ‘고통’이 병리적 증상으로 전치, 변용되는 양상에 대해 살펴보려고 했다. 1960년을 전후한 시기에 국민/비국민을 구별, 대립시키는 통치기제에 따라 비국민이 호명, 양산되었는데, 특히 ‘부랑하는 자’가 정화되어야 하는 비국민의 표상으로 단속대상이 되었다. 이들은 ‘우범성’이 높다는 이유로 단속, 격리 대상으로 지목되었는데, 전후 부랑자의 면면을 살펴보면 대개 경제적, 역사적, 정치적 격변에 따라 양산된 월남민, 이촌민, 탈향민, 이산민 등으로 이들은 엄밀히 말해 정치적, 경제적 난민과 다를 바 없었다. 하지만 이들은 국가의 경계를 위협하는 ‘적대적’인 요소로 인식되었고, 이에 따라 병원, 감옥, 보호소 등에 격리조치 되었다. 이 글에서는 이들의 병리적 증상이 ‘살아있지만 죽어도 무방한 존재’임을 드러내는 신체적 기호로서 고통이 신체에 고착, 물화되는 것으로 보았다. 고통에 대해 말할 수 있는 권리가 없는 자들에게 ‘병리적 증상’은 고통의 물화이다. 또한, 당대 소설을 통해 ‘비국민’으로 호명되는 과정에서 자기 감시와 검열이 작동하기도 하고(「오발탄」), 국가주의 시스템으로 이웃관계가 포섭되기도 한다(「한씨연대기」)는 점을 밝히고자 하였다.

영어초록

This study is intended to take a look at the trend of displacement and transfiguration of existential ‘pain’ of individual for the pathological symptoms under the anti-communism system after the War. At the time of around 1960, unpatriotic people were called upon and produced following the ruling system to distinguish and contrast Citizens and Non-Citizens, and in particular, it was the subject of cracking down for ‘the wandering person’ to be the representation of non-citizens to be purified. They were pin pointed as the subject of cracking down and separation due to their high likely tendency of ‘criminality’, and looking into the aspects of vagabonds after the War, it is generally originated from the drastic changes in economy, history and politics in North Koreans migrating to South, people in different villages, people from different origin, and so forth. These are not much different from political or economic refugees in more scrutinized sense. However, they were perceived as a ‘hostile’ element to threaten the national boundary, and accordingly, they were separated and isolated in hospitals, prisons, protective facilities or the like. Furthermore, as classified for unpatriotic people, they had to encounter the existential crisis to prove their presence as the ‘patriotic people’. Under this article, it considered that the suffering has adhered and attached to the human body as the physical signal to display as the ‘being that has their pathological symptoms alive yet to be irrelevant if died’(homo sacer). For those who have no right to speak on suffering, the ‘pathologic symptom’ is the trace and reification of suffering. In addition, in the process of calling as the ‘Non-Citizens’ through the novels of times, it displays the point that it operates the self-monitoring and censorship (「A Stray Bullet」) and it includes the neighborhood relationship with the nationalistic system (「The Chronicles of Han」).
