중국 유학생이 인식한 심리상담의 접근 및 회피요인 (Approach and Avoidance Factors of Psychological Counseling Perceived by Chinese International Students)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 중국 유학생의 상담 경험을 바탕으로 상담에 대한 접근 및 회피요인을 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 중국 유학생 10명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하여 진술문을 도출한 후, 진술문에 대한 유사성 분류 및 중요도를 평정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 개념도 방법을 활용하여 분석한 결과, 상담의 접근 및 회피요인의 차원은 모두 2차원의 개인적 요인과 사회적 요인으로 확인되었다. 이와 같은 결과는 문화적 요인이 상담과 같은 전문적 도움 추구에 핵심적 요인이 됨을 나타낸다. 또한 접근요인과 회피요인의 8개 군집을 통해 중국 유학생들이 한국 내에서도 상당한 문화적 차이와 차별을 경험하고 있어 상담을 찾게 되었으며, 상담과 같은 공식적, 전문적 서비스를 선호한다는 점을 발견하였다. go-zone 그래프를 통해 연구 참여자 중 상담자와 내담자 집단 간 중요도 인식을 비교한 결과, 내담자 집단은 자신과 사회적인 관계가 없는 전문가를 통한 문제해결을 가장 중요하게 인식하였다. 본 연구는 중국 유학생들이 심리적 도움을 찾는 방식에 대한 이해를 돕고, 문화적으로 적절한 상담 서비스 제공의 중요성을 보여주었으며, 정부와 대학 차원의 정책과 실행과제를 제언하여 중국 유학생 심리지원 활성화를 위한 구체적 방안을 제시하였다는 점에 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to explore approach and avoidance factors of psychological counseling perceived by Chinese international students. In-depth interviews were conducted with Chinese international students who had counseling experience. The collected ideas were compiled and summarized into statements. Participants then classified the statements according to similarity and rated the importance of each statement. Applying the Concept Mapping, the dimensions of approach and avoidance factors of counseling were identified, which were divided into 2 dimensions of individual and social factors. These results showed that cultural factors played a key role in seeking professional help such as counseling. In addition, the 8 clusters of approach factors and avoidance factors showed that, due to experiencing a great deal of cultural differences and discrimination in Korea, Chinese international students displayed a preference for official and professional service, such as counseling. Finally, the differences in perceived importance between the counselor group and the client group were compared using a go-zone graph. It was found that clients perceived problem solving through an expert who is socially unrelated to them as the most important. This study sheds light on the specific and actual perceptions held by Chinese international students who have directly experienced counseling. This study contributes to a better understanding of how Chinese international students seek psychological assistance, underscores the provision of culturally appropriate counseling services, and offers recommendations for policy initiatives and implementation at both governmental and university levels. The significance of this study lies in its presentation of concrete measures aimed at enhancing psychological support for Chinese international students.
