초록

이 글은 현재의 문학 연구가 어떤 맥락 하에 있는지를 검토하고, 비판적으로 검토할 부분들을 공유하기 위해 작성되었다. 박인환에 대한 연구사를 고찰함으로써 문학연구에서 공적 지식이 축적되는 방식에 대해 생각해보고, 특정 시대의 문학 연구의 방향에 따라 박인환 평가가 어떻게 구성되는지 살펴보고자 한다.
박인환에 대한 평가는 여러 가지 관점과 방법론에 의해 논쟁적인 과정을 거치며 수정되었다. 그러나 박인환에 관한 논문들에서 연구사 검토를 통한 문제제기는 동어 반복적으로 이루어지고 있다. 연구는 축적되어도 연구‘사’는 구성되지 못하고, 그렇기 때문에 박인환 연구의 초기 단계의 관점들이 견고한 문학사적 지위를 점하고 있다. 새로운 문학연구가 기존 문학의 정치성에 대한 도전이기 위해서는 연구들이 ‘사’적인 것으로 구성되어야 한다.
학계에서는 1970,80년대 대중들이 저항과 낭만의 아이콘으로 박인환을 지지했던 것을 문제적으로 인식하며, 박인환을 현실인식이 부재한 경박한 모더니스트로 다루었다. 1990년대 초반에는 그의 현실인식의 부재는 역사의식의 결여로 평가되며 통일문학사서술의 관점에서 부정적으로 기술되었다. 그러나 1990년대 중반 이후 박인환의 현실인식과 역사의식에 주목하고자 하는 시도들이 나타났으며, 박인환을 긍정적으로 보려는 시각이 제출되었다. 2000년대 중반 이후에는 모더니즘 측면에서도 그를 재평가할 필요성이 제기되면서, 미적 모더니티 차원에서 모더니스트 박인환이 새롭게 부각되었다. 이 과정에서 박인환은 비정치적, 탈이념적 성격이 긍정적으로 강조되었다. 특히 이 시기 박인환 연구가 정체성 탐구로 전환되는 양상을 보인다. 그런데 이 과정에서 박인환과 그의 텍스트가 수행하고 있는 실천적 정치성에 대한 평가를 유보/삭제한다는 점이 문제적이다. 이는 또한 현재 문학연구(자)가 자신의 주체성/정치성을 사유하고 실천하는 것을 유보하는 것과 무관하지 않다.

영어초록

This article aims to examine the context where Korea's current research of literature lie in, thereby sharing the critical points of view found in this paper. By examining the previous history of research into a Korean poet, Park In-Whan to think about how public knowledge has been accumulated in the realm of research of literature, this paper looks into how the value of Park In-Whan has been differently evaluated depending on the directions of research of literature in the specific times.
The evaluation of Park In-Whan has been modified through controversial debate by various viewpoints and methodologies. However, the issues raised by the papers on Park In-Whan through history of research have been almost similar and repetitive. Even with the results of research accumulated, the "history" of research has not been well established, thus the viewpoints from the initial stage of the studies on Park In-Whan now maintains their robust position in the realm of literatures. To make the new research of literature the challenges against the politics of the existing literatures, the results of studies are supposed to be composed of the "private" viewpoints.
The academic world has pointed out that the general public during 1970s and 1980s had given support for Park In-Whan as the icon of resistance and romanticism, dealing with the poet as a frivolous modernist lacking the perception of reality. In the early 1990s, his perception of reality was thought as the scarcity of perception of history, being negatively portrayed from the viewpoints of the narration of the unified literary history of the South and North Korea. Since mid 1990s, however, several attempts appeared to catch on his perception of reality and perception of history from new aspects, with the trends of trying to positively see the poet. Since the mid-2000s, the needs of re-evaluation on him from the aspects of modernism were raised, and Park In-Whan was newly highlighted as the aesthetic modernist. From this process, his non-political and de-ideological characters were emphasized. In particular, Park In-Whan started to be included in the positive context at the point where the studies on him shifted to those on identity. However, such evaluation is somehow problematic in the sense that it evades the issues such as subjectivity in history and ideology, deferring/deleting the evaluation on politics performed by Park In-Whan and his literatures. Such attitude is not irrelevant to a research(er) of literature being currently negligent in one's reasoning and practices of subjectivity/politics.
