<Abstract>The Recent Trend of Researches in Chinese Oral History -focused on the Oral History of Resistance War against Japan during Sino-Japanese War and World War Ⅱ-

This paper’s purpose is to examine the rise and development and the recent trend of researches in Chinese oral history along with its characters and problems. Oral history has a long history both in western and eastern world history. Oral history is the recording, preservation and interpretation of historical information, based on the personal experiences and opinions of the speaker.
The traditional Chinese oral history has a long history. Since the founding of the People’s Public of China in 1949, the modern oral history has been introduced and to China from America and Japan. Especially Chinese oral history developed to a great extent after Den Xiaoping’s the opening of China to the outside world in 1979. In China’s modern oral history of the early stages, emerged in a number of fruitful representative, Two of them outstanding scholars are famous Chinese modern historian, Huang Xianfan who contributed on Chinese ethnology by using oral history method and Te-Kong TONG who founded the Society of Oral History of Modern China in America, He was educated at Columbia University and he was one of the pioneers of oral history in the modern era. His book, The Memoirs of Li Tsung-jen has been considered by many as a classic.
Chinese oral historians had contacted with other country, especially with American and English oral history that influenced on the theory, method and practice of the Chinese oral history. Chinese oral historians gradually developed their own distinctive characteristics. The Chinese Oral History Association(中華口述歷史硏究會) was established in 2004, and a national conference on the oral history was held in Yangzhou in the same year. There are now numerous national organizations which opened their own website of the oral history and held workshops and conferences and published many books and writings. Oral history is also used widely by the Chinese historians, folklorists, anthropologists, sociologists, journalists, linguists, and many others employ some form of interviewing in their research.
In Chinese modern history, the researches of oral history concerning resistance war against Japan during Sino-Japanese War and World War Ⅱ has achieved very great achievements and Chinese oral historians focused their research on the Nanjing Masscre(南京大屠殺), Chinese comfort women(中國慰安婦), Chinese forced labour(中國徵用者), Japanese war crime to Chinese people during their occupation(日軍侵華戰爭), germ warfare(細菌戰), Japanese colonial education on Chinese people(日本奴隸化敎育) and region without people(無人區) by using many vivid interview collections made by oral historians with the war experienced people including Chinese people's leaders and grass roots. Their researches have contributed their reconstruction of the Chinese modern history and impacted on the Chinese historiography. Chinese oral historians placed particular emphasis on the ‘life history’ and ‘history from below’ and influenced on Chinese history education with revolutionary effect. But compared with the international standards, the Chinese contemporary oral history still lags behind. Therefore, it becomes a task for oral history to keep pace with those advanced in the world.
