<쌍계사진감선사비>의 서풍 및 사상과의 연관성 (The Calligraphic Style of and Relevance to Thought)

초록

본고는 최치원이 직접 찬하고 쓴 <진감선사비>의 서풍 및 사상과의 연관성을 고찰한 것이다. <진감선사비>는 학계에 널리 알려져 다각적인 연구가 이루어졌고 서풍에 관해서도 지속적으로 연구되고 있다.
지금까지 선행된 서예연구의 대부분은 서풍에 치중되어 이 비의 서풍이 구양순풍과 안진경풍에 유사하다는 논지가 주를 이루고 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 <진감선사비>의 서풍을 지금까지 언급된 적이 없는 唐 배휴의 <규봉선사비>와 비교를 통해 서풍의 연관성뿐만 아니라 불교 사상의 관련성도 주목하여 그 맥락을 짚어 보았다.
또한 비문의 서사 體制를 통해서는 서자 최치원의 儒家的 입장을 확인할 수 있었고, 해서와 행서를 병용하고 동형반복을 벗어나 다양성을 추구한 서풍에서는 佛과 禪 사상을 살필 수 있었다. 그리고 <진감선사비>와 동시대 선사비와의 서풍 비교를 통해 그 연관성 고찰해 보았는데, 해서에 행서의 필의가 가미된 선사비들의 이러한 독특한 서풍이 선사상과 무관하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 또 <진감선사비>에서 특징적으로 드러나는 부정형의 형태로 다양한 변화미를 추구한 글씨는 古新羅 서풍으로부터 면면히 이어져 내려온 친연성임을 파악할 수 있었다. 이처럼 <진감선사비>의 글씨는 靈活하면서도 변화미가 넘치는 활달한 필세로 다름의 구조를 融會貫通하여 통일성 가운데 다양함을 추구하여 독특한 서풍을 형성하고 있으며, 비의 찬서자 최치원은 비문의 내용과 서사 체제, 글씨를 통해서 유·불·도 三敎融合을 合一한 융·복합적 사상을 체현하고 있다.

영어초록

This paper aims to study the calligraphic style of Ssangghesa Jingamsensa Daegongtapbi. Unlike the previous studies written in Ouyang-xun style, I will find out the own style of Choi Chiwon by in this paper.
The head writing of the stele is very unique, compared to those in the United Silla and China. Its vividness and creativity show the characteristic of the young calligrapher.
The writing of stele body also demonstrates the uniqueness of his own. It is different neither Ouyng-xun and Yan Zhenqing styles. The regular script with the running taste is energetic and fluent. The stele is one of the enormous stele throughout the history of Korean calligraphic history. The calligraphic style divided into that of title and that of the text. The title writing was written in particular seal script called Gwadujeon, which distinguishes it from those of China. To find out the source of text writing, I observed the writings of Tang and Silla. The writing of Jingamseonsabi is similar to that of Guifengbei by Pei Xiu of Tang in some characters written in running script and elongated vertical strokes. However, Guifengbei lacks the variety showing same character in different composition, which is one of the characteristics of Jingamseonsabi. Accordingly, I explored the stele writings in Silla and could find out the similarities to the writings of the Old Silla stlae and Seodanghwasangbi of the United Silla. It means that Choi Chi-won wrote Jingamseonsabi with the aesthetic sense of Silla in addition to the style of Pei Xiu.
The style showing the sense of running script seems the flow of calligraphy in Seon monk stelae during the late Silla period.
Lastly, I observed the relationship between his philosophy and calligraphic style. The appearance of sentence shows Confucian thought, the sense of running script in unrestricted touch reveals Seon Buddhism, and lively brushstrokes expresses an artistic taste. Thus, Choi Chi-won demonstrated a great confluence of three religions not only in content but in calligraphy of Jingamseonsabi.
