부정기선 해운시장의 운임변동성 영향 요인에 관한 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Effect of the Factors Influencing on the Dry Bulk Freight Rate)

초록

부정기선 해운시장 운임은 시장 자체의 공급과 수요에 따른 완전 경쟁원리에 의해 결정되며, 국내외적 경영환경에 민감하게 반응하는 변동성이 매우 큰 국제적 속성을 지닌 산업이다. 즉, 시장상황의 변화에 따라 운임에 영향을 미치는 요인들과의 연관성도변화하는 것이다.
최근 해상 운임의 잘못된 예측으로 인해 국내 해운업계 1∼4위 모두가 위기를 겪고 있는 상황이다. 이렇게 변동성이 큰 운임예측이 잘못되면 기업 입장에서는 커다란 손실을 떠안을 수밖에 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 부정기선 해운시장의 운임변동성에대한 이해도를 제고하고 운임결정에 영향을 미치는 요인들의 변화 및 그 상관성을 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 그리고 구체적인 대응 방안을 모색하기 위해 종속변수를 선형별로 나누어 분석하였다.
본 연구는 문헌분석과 실증분석을 병행하여 실시하였다. 부정기선 해운시장의 특성과 운임변동성에 대해 살펴보고 가설을 두단계로 나누어 설정한 이후 선형상관도, 상관관계 분석, 다중회귀분석을 통하여 실증분석을 하였다.
가설은 BDI와 독립변수들간의 관계 및 BDI를 구성하는 4가지 인덱스 지표인 BCI, BPI, BSI, BHSI와 독립변수들간의 관계를 검증하였다. 실증분석에 의한 가설검증을 통해 독립변수들인 수요 및 공급요인, 기타 외생요인, 주요 경제 지표들은 종속변수인 운임지수와 상호연관성을 가지며, 변수들 간에도 상호관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 부정기 해운시장은 시장 자체의 수요와 공급 요인뿐만 아니라 다양한 외부 환경적 요인들과 연관성을 가지고 있으며 선박 선형별로 운임변동요인들의 상관관계에 미치는 영향이다름도 확인하였다.

영어초록

The freight of the tramp in the shipping market is determined by the perfect competition principle in accordance with the supply and demand of the market itself. It is the very volatile and international industry, which sensitively responds to the domestic and international business environment. This study was conducted in parallel with the literature analysis and actual proof analysis. After looking at the characteristics and variability of the freight of the tramp in the shipping market, assumptions were set in two steps. Afterwards, the empirical analysis was carried out through the linear correlation, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
In the first step of the hypothesis, it verified the relationship between the BDI and independent variables, and in the second step of the hypothesis, it examined the relationship between independent variables and the four index indicators constituting the BDI, which are BCI, BPI, BSI, and BHSI. As the result of the first step of the hypothesis, it was verified 2 variables are significant. The quantity of coal transported and the FFA indicator showed the positive(+) correlation, and the beta value of the FFA appeared most significantly, which means its impact is the greatest.
In the second step of the hypothesis, the quantity of coal transported showed the positive(+) correlation with the FFA indicator, and the negative(-) correlation with the coal price. The beta value of FFA appeared highest, which indicates its impact is the greatest. In the third, fourth, and fifth hypotheses, the price of iron ore, quantity of coal transported, FFA indicator, and Dow showed the positive(+) correlation. Like the preceding, the beta value of FFA appeared the largest.
Through the hypothesis verification by the empirical analysis, it was found that independent variables, such as the demand & supply factor, other exogenous factor, main economic indicator have the correlation with the dependent variable, freight index, as well as the variable. It was also found that the irregular shipping market has the interconnectivity not only with the demand & supply factor of the market but also with the variety of external environmental factors. Moreover, it was confirmed the influence on the correlation between fare fluctuation factors is also different according to the type of ship.
Through this study, we hope it helps prepare countermeasures for the volatility of the freight fare of the tramp in the shipping market.
