부정기선 해운시장의 운임에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Effect of the Factors Influencing on the Dry Bulk Freight Rate)

초록

부정기선 해운시장 운임은 시장 자체의 공급과 수요에 따른 완전 경쟁논리에 의해 결정된다. 진입장벽이 상대적으로 높은 정기선 해운시장은 화물 운송의 신뢰성, 정시성 등 운항 측면 요인과 화주와의 관계가 상대적으로 더욱 중요한 반면에, 부정기선 해운시장은 내적⋅외적인 경영환경에 민감하게 반응하는 변동성이 매우 큰 국제적 속성을 지닌 산업이다. 즉, 시장상황의 변화에 의해해상운임에 영향을 미치는 요인들과의 연관성도 변화하는 것이다.
과거 해운시장의 잘못된 예측으로 고시황기에 고가의 용선료로 선박을 용선함으로써, 저시황기에 높은 선박원가를 감당하지못하고 국내 해운업계 1∼4위 선사 모두가 위기를 겪었다. 이렇게 변동성이 큰 운임 예측이 잘못되면 해운기업 입장에서는 커다란손실을 떠안을 수밖에 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 부정기선 해운시장의 운임변동성에 대한 이해도를 제고하고 운임을 결정하는데 영향을 미치는 여러 요인들의 변화 및 그 상관성을 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 그리고 구체적인 대응 방안을 모색하기 위해 종속변수를 선형별로 나누어 분석하였다.
본 연구는 문헌분석과 실증분석을 병행하여 실시하였다. 먼저, 부정기선 해운시장의 특성과 운임변동성에 대해 살펴보고 가설을 두 단계로 나누어 설정한 이후 선형상관도, 상관관계 분석, 다중회귀분석을 통하여 실증분석을 하였다.
가설1단계에서는 BDI와 독립변수들간의 관계를, 가설2단계에서는 BDI를 구성하는 4가지 지표인 BCI, BPI, BSI, BHSI와 독립변수들간의 관계를 검증하였다. 실증분석을 통해 독립변수들인 수요 및 공급요인, 원자재 가격 요인, 주요 경제 지표들은 종속변수인운임지수와 상호연관성을 가지며, 변수들 간에도 상호관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 부정기선 해운시장은 시장 자체의 수요와 공급요인뿐만 아니라 원자재 요인 그리고 다양한 외부 환경적 요인들과 연관성을 가지고 있으며 선형별로 운임변동요인들의 상관관계에 미치는 영향이 다름도 확인하였다

영어초록

The freight of the tramp in the shipping market is determined by the complete competition principle in accordance with the supply and demand of the market itself. The liner shipping market, where entry barriers are relatively high, is relatively more important in terms of the relationship between carriers and shippers, such as the reliability and timeliness of cargo transportation. On the other hand, the tramp shipping market is very volatile and international industry, which sensitively responds to the domestic and international business environment. In other words, the change in market conditions will change the relationship with the factors that effect dry bulk freight rate. As a result of erroneous forecasts of the maritime market in the past, all of the shipping companies in the first to fourth in the Korean shipping industry faced a crisis because they could not afford high vessel costs in the midst of the boom period. Therefore, this study aims to improve the understanding of freight volatility of the tramp shipping market and to analyze the changes of the factors affecting the freight decision and its correlation.
This study was conducted in parallel with the literature analysis and actual proof analysis. It were consisted of two steps. First, looking at the characteristics and variability of the freight of the tramp in the shipping market. Afterwards, the empirical analysis was carried out through the linear correlation, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
In the first step of the hypothesis, the relationship between BDI and independent variables was examined. In the second step of the hypothesis, the relationship between BCI, BPI, BSI, BHSI and independent variables were examined.
Through the hypothesis verification by the empirical analysis, it was found that independent variables such as demand and supply factors, commodity price factors, and major economic indicators are correlated with freight index. It was also found that the tramp shipping market has the interconnectivity not only with the demand and supply factor of the market but also with the variety of external environmental factors. Moreover, it was confirmed the influence on the correlation between fare fluctuation factors is also different according to the type of ship.
