산업별 R&D 투자와 기업성과에 관한 실증연구 (Empirical Research on the R&D Investment by Types of Industry and Corporate Performance)

초록

With the recent increase in international competition and globalization and rapidly developing knowledge-based economy, the importance of R&D for enhancing national and corporate competitiveness and creating new added value is being accentuated. However, most of the previous studies regarding R&D dealt with parts of specific industry or the whole manufacturing industry, so they could not present a comprehensive R&D strategy for each industry.
For this, this study analyzed factors contributing to the enhancement of corporate performance by each industry through empirical analysis on the corporate performance and R&D activities. Based on the result of the empirical analysis, it shows the direction of R&D investment strategy of each industry by levels of technology.
To analyze the difference among industries which was lacking in previous studies, the panel data of 1,405 companies from 2002 to 2006 was divided into 12 industries. Sales which is an indicator for corporate performance was used as the dependant variables and corporate capital, number of employees, establishment year of corporate, R&D investment, number of researchers, establishment year of research center were used as independent variables. And random effect model was used as the method of empirical analysis.
The major empirical analysis showed that corporate capital, number of employees and R&D expenditure affected the corporate performance positively regardless of the scale of corporate or type of business. However establishment year of corporate, number of researchers and establishment year of research center affected the corporate performance positively or negatively depending rporateablishme.
