사회적 관계망, 일상적 어려움, 사회적 지지가 외국인 근로자의 정신건강에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A study on social networks, daily difficulties, and social support systems and their influence on the mental health of foreign workers)

초록

본 연구는 사회적 관계망, 일상적 어려움과 사회적 지지가 외국인 근로자의 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써, 외국인 근로자들의 실질적인 정신보건서비스전달체계의 구성을 위한 기초자료 활용을 목적으로 하였다.
외국인 근로자의 정신건강에 대한 조사를 위해 서울 및 경기도에 거주하는 외국인 근로자들을 무작위로 표집하였으며, 총216부 중 190부의 자료를 분석하였다.
연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 일상의 어려움과 사회적 관계망이 정신건강에 미치는 영향에서는 신체적․정신적 어려움이 있는 경우가 없는 경우보다 우울이 높게 나타났으며, 불안의 경우, 신체적․정신적 어려움이 있는 경우가 없는 경우보다, 인격모독을 경험한 경우가 없는 경우보다, 가까운 외국인이 없는 경우가 있는 경우보다 불안이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 지지와 한국에서 겪는 어려움에 따른 우울의 차이에서는 의사소통 어려움이 있는 경우, 인격모독이 있는 경우 사회적지지 정도에 있어 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 사회적 지지와 한국에서 겪는 어려움에 따른 불안의 차이에서는 신체적․정신적 어려움이 있는 경우, 의사소통 어려움이 있는 경우, 인격모독이 있는 경우 사회적지지 정도에 있어 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 넷째, 사회적 지지와 사회적 관계망에 따른 우울의 차이를 알아보기 위해 이원분산분석을 실시한 결과 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었으나, 불안의 경우에는 가까운 외국인 여부와 참여하는 외국인 근로자 지원단체 여부, 외국인 근로자 지원단체 참여에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 여섯째, 외국인 근로자들의 한국에서 겪는 어려움과 사회적 관계망, 사회적 지지에 따라 정신건강에 차이가 있는 가를 알아본 결과 정신건강 중 우울에는 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았으나 불안에서는 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was for the application of basic resources needed for the construction of practical mental health service delivery system for foreign workers by examining how social networks, daily difficulties and social support systems influence the mental health of foreign workers. In order to research the state of mental health of foreign workers, subjects residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were randomly targeted, and 190 copies of resources were analyzed amongst the total of 216 copies.
A summary of the study results are as follows:First, in terms of daily difficulties and social networks’ influences on mental health, depression was displayed to be higher for cases when physical or mental difficulties were experienced compared to those who did not experience such difficulties. A higher number of subjects displayed anxiety amongst workers who experienced physical or mental difficulties and insults, as well as for those who did not have other foreign friends who could relate with the difficulties of expatriate life. Secondly, the level of depression showed significant statistical differences in South Korea between workers who experienced communicative barriers as well as those who had been the recipients of insults.
Thirdly, the same was true in statistical differences among those who experienced anxiety; physical./mental difficulties, communication barriers, and insults all contributed to the high level of anxiety experience among workers.
Fourthly, as a result of conducting the analysis of variance in order to examine the differences in anxiety following the social support and social network, no significant statistical differences were displayed. However, in the case of anxiety, significant statistical differences existed according to whether or not workers had other foreign friends and/or participated in foreign worker support groups.
Fifth and lastly, as a result of examining whether differences existed in mental health in accordance to hardships, social networks, and social support foreign workers encounter in South Korea, significant statistical difference were not displayed for depression but were displayed for anxiety.
