초록

우리는 중국 문명의 거대한 흐름과 역사를 함께 해왔다. 그만큼 한자문화권과 긴밀한 관계를 맺고 있었다는 의미이다. 오히려 이 점에서 한문을 적극 수용하고 높은 수준에 도달함으로써 자기 존재를 분명히 각인시켜왔다. 그리고 그 과정은 한문에 대한 이해이자 자기화 과정이며, 달리 말하자면 번역의 역사라고도 할 수 있다. 이는 신라 薛聰의 經書 口訣의 파급력과 崔致遠의 수준 높은 문학적 성취 과정에서도 확인할 수 있다. 그리고 고려를 거치며 깊이를 갖춘 불교 중심 사회는 그 학적 역량을 불전의 번역으로 제고하였다. 다만 고유의 표기수단을 갖지 못한 관계로 借字表記를 통해 불교의 교리를 전수하고 학습하였다. 釋讀口訣이 그것이다. 그런데 석독구결은, 14세기를 지나며 禪宗이 불교계의 주도권을 얻으면서, 수양과 대중을 고려한 音讀口訣로 중심을 옮겨갔다. 우리말 어순을 고려한 석독구결은 불교 교리의 이해를 중시하는 과정에서 불전에 대한 깊이를 더할 수 있었고, 이렇게 다진 불교계의 역량을 기반으로 대중화 경향에 음독구결의 간편함을 추구한 것이다.
이때 明淸 교체의 동아시아 전환과 함께 조선이 건국하며 새로운 국면을 맞았다. 귀족 중심의 불교 사회가 국왕과 사대부 주도의 유교 국가로 탈바꿈한 것이다. 더구나 세종의 훈민정음 창제와 반포는 문명 전환의 유용한 도구가 되었고, 번역의 혁신을 가져왔다. 그 이전은 물론 이후로도 구결을 통한 번역은 여전히 유효하였다. 태종을 시작으로 유교 경전과 불전에 대한 구결 작업이 이어졌고, 세종은 훈민정음의 창제와 동시에 실질적으로 활용하고자 하였다. 이러한 문명 전환의 국가적 기획은 세조가 계승하여 직접 유교와 불교의 경서에 대한 구결과 언해 작업을 주도하였다. 나아가 농서, 의서, 관용 문서에도 적극 활용함으로써 독자적인 표기 수단을 통한 지식의 보편화를 기획하였다. 결론적으로 조선 전기의 번역을 통한 문명 전환의 국가적 기획은 한자문화권의 공고함을 넘지는 못하였다. 이후 성종에 이르러 문화적 전성기를 맞은 것으로 평가되지만, 유교 중심의 국가 체계를 확립했다는 점에서는 다양성을 잃었다고 하겠으며, 번역을 통한 자기화의 측면에서 유교 경전에 대한 이해는 깊어졌으나 한글 번역의 보편화와 대중화는 실패했기 때문이다.
조선전기의 문명전환은 국왕 중심의 국가 주도이자, 집현전 출신 학자와의 협업이었다는 점에서 그 과정을 보다 세밀하게 재조명할 필요가 있다. 본고는 그 재조명 과정에서 경주된 다양한 노력과 쇄신을 사대부사회의 현실적 이면에서 읽어내기 위한 한 과정이다.

영어초록

In our case, we have been together with the great flow and history of Chinese civilization. It has been closely related to the culture of Chinese characters. In this respect, it was rather clear to accept Chinese texts and reach a high level. And the process is a process of understanding Chinese texts, and the history of translation. This can be confirmed from the level of the literary level of Choi Chun Won from the Silla Sungchong Sungjae. And through consideration, the Buddhist centered society increased the competence of Buddhism in Buddhist translation. However, because they did not have their own means of writing, they taught and taught Buddhist doctrine through a method to replace it. This was the end of the 14th century, when Zen Buddhism took the initiative of Buddhism and shifted to the poetry of conscience in consideration of the cultivation and the masses. In the process of attaching importance to the understanding of Buddhist doctrine by virtue of the Mokdokwon consciousness of Korean word order, I could deeply add to the Buddhist image. Based on this Buddhist power, it pursued popularization and simplicity of poetry.
At that time, the Chosun was founded and the new phase was met with the conversion of the Myeongcheong Exchange to East Asia. Buddhism and aristocratic society have been transformed into Confucian states led by the King and the Soviet Union. Moreover, the Hunminjeonggeum inference and banpo of Sejong became useful tools of civilization transformation and brought about innovation of translation. Of course, the translations from before and after the translation were still valid. Starting with Taejong, Confucian scriptures and Buddhist scriptures continued to work, and Sejong sought to utilize the Hunminjeonggeum at the same time as practical use. This national plan of civilization conversion was succeeded by Sejo, and directly led the work of Confucianism and Buddhist worship. Furthermore, it was planned to use universalization of knowledge through independent marking means by positively utilizing it in agricultural documents, However, the national project of the conversion of civilization through the translation of Chosun's biography did not go beyond the recognition of the Chinese character culture. Although it has been estimated that it has reached the cultural peak during the Sungjong period, it has lost its diversity in that it established the national system of Confucianism. In the magnetization through translation, the understanding of the Confucian scriptures deepened, but the universalization and popularization of Hangeul translation failed It is because.
In this respect, it is necessary to reexamine the process in detail, since the conversion of civilization of Chosun dynasty is led by the king and the collaboration with scholars from prehistoric times. And in the course of the re - examination, we must find a methodology to understand and explain various efforts and reforms for the construction of a new society of Joseon.
