고전 독서론 연구의 현황과 과제 (The Present Status and Further Task of the Studies on Classical Reading Theory)

초록

본 연구는 고전 독서론을 주제로 한 연구 논문을 대상으로 한다. 연구의 목적은 고전 독서론의 연구 성과, 연구의 문제점, 문제점 개선 방안 등을 밝히는 것이다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째 고전 독서론 연구 논문은 크게 보아 인물 중심 독서론 연구와 독서 일반론 연구로 분류된다. 이들 중 18세기와 19세기 인물의 독서론이 연구자들로부터 집중적인 조명을 받았다. 이것은 조선 전기의 전통 성리학적 독서론보다 조선 후기 문제 해결 중심적 독서론에 연구자들이 보다 많은 관심을 기울였음을 의미한다. 둘째 독서 일반론과 관련한 논문은 ‘조선 全時期’, ‘조선 後期’, ‘학파’, ‘가문’, 그리고 ‘계층’ 등으로 나누어 독서 일반론을 시도하였다. 그리고 이들 논문에서 독서 일반론을 추출한 방법은 두 가지다. 하나는 각각 대표적인 인물의 독서론을 들어 이들을 순차적으로 제시한 경우이고 다른 하나는 인물의 독서론을 고도로 추상화하여 상위의 독서론 개념들을 제시한 경우이다. 셋째 고전 독서론 연구 논문의 성과에 내재된 이면적 문제로, 인물 중심 독서론 연구와 독서 일반론 연구는 모두 독서론이 포함된 텍스트를 충실히 설명하려는 경향을 보였다. 그러나 공시적⋅통시적 좌표 속에서 해석된 텍스트의 내용에 대해 그 의미와 위상을 부여하려는 노력은 부족하였다. 넷째 고전 독서론의 고유성을 밝히기 위해서는 구조적⋅다맥락적 접근이 필요하다는 주장을 하였다. 본 연구는 주자의 중요한 독서 개념인 “迎刃而解”가 조선의 독서론에서 어떻게 자기 조절성 속에서 구조적 변환을 이루었는지를 보여주고자 했다. 논의 결과 ‘영인이해’가 조선에 와서 자기 변화와 발전을 거치는 과정 속에서 새로운 개념 구조로 변환되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 고전 독서론의 固有性 확보를 위해 텍스트에 대한 충실한 설명도 필요하지만 독서론에 대한 구조적⋅다맥락적 접근이 필요하다는 주장을 하였다.

영어초록

This thesis is to inquire into the achievements, the problems, the developmental plan and task of classical reading theory. The study object is 66 research studies of classical reading theory. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, the research studies are classified into two spheres, that is, person-focused studies and general studies on reading theory. The person-focused studies are 40 ones, in which 17 persons are dealt with. Among these studies, the reading theories of the persons in 18th and 19th century are studied intensively. This means that most researchers gives much attention to the problem-solving reading theory in the later period of Chosun Dynasty than to the traditional Neo-Confucian reading theory in the early period of Chosun Dynasty. Secondly, the studies on the general theory on reading are 26 ones. These studies set the subcategories such as 'whole period of Chosun', 'in the later Chosun', 'schools', 'lineage of family', and 'classes'. It is two ways that researchers extract out a generalization on the reading theory. One is to present them one by one in discussing the representative person's reading theories each. The other is to present the higher concept of reading theory by abstracting the person's reading theory in a high degree. The former way is preferred, and the studies by the latter way is 7 ones. Thirdly, the another aspects in the achievements of the studies are examined out. In either the person-focused studies or the generalization studies, most researchers aim at the explanation of the text in the reading theory(i.e. their study object). And ironically, due to that aim, some problems like 'a possibility of their achievements' going back to Chu Hsi's reading theory arise. In other words, the studies on the classical reading theory so far pay attention to the explanation of the contents in the text, and comparatively the originality of Korean classical reading theory is not fully searched out. Fourthly, to clarify the originality of classical reading theory, it is necessary to carry out the studies in which the diachronic structure of the generalization of reading theory and the much-contextual elements of person-focused reading theory are coordinated. To present an outlook of clarifying the originality in this thesis, this thesis is to find out the acceptance and variation of Ying Ren Er Jie(迎刃而解) of Chu Hsi in Chosun reading theory, and thus to show how the Chu Hsi's reading theory is established as an original reading theory in Chosun. And then it is confirmed that Ying Ren Er Jie(迎刃而解) went through the extension and change in its meaning according to the times and person. This means that Yin Ren Er Jie of Chosun come to have an originality which is different from that of the Ying Ren Er Jie(迎刃而解) of Chu Hsi. In short, when the studies are carried out, in which a substantial explanation and understanding on the text of classical reading theory and the diachronic structure and much-contextual element are considered together, the originality of Korean classical reading theory is supposed to be clarified.
