공동체문화와 커먼즈, 가치실천 양식들 (Community Culture, Commons, and Patterns of Value Practices)

초록

두레는 이전에 없던 새로운 경제ㆍ사회ㆍ문화 구성체라는 점에서 혁신성을 지녔다. 또한지배집단의 수탈이 심화될 때 농민봉기의 동력으로 작동했다. 두레는 노동ㆍ놀이공동체로서기능하기도 했으며, 공동체의 위기 국면에서는 정치적 결사체로 전화했다. 한편 커먼즈는 다수가 공동으로 이용하는 재화이며 또 누구나 이용할 수 있는 재화로 이해되고 있는 것이 지배적이다. 그래서 ‘주인 없는 목초지’로서 이용자들의 이익 극대화 속에서 황폐화될 수밖에없는 ‘공유지의 비극’으로 그 부정성이 강조되기도 했다. 그러나 최근에는 지배적인 견해와달리, 커먼즈를 구성원들의 다층적 관계망, 유동적이고 확장적인 힘들의 각축장으로 인식하는 관점들이 제기되고 있다. 즉 커먼즈를 관계와 힘이 작동하는 장으로 보고 그것이 투쟁을통해서 생산되는 것임을 강조한다. 그 투쟁의 과정에서 발현되는 커먼즈에 주목하고 대안을모색하고 있다.
커먼즈는 자본주의 체제와 대안적으로 연결된 어떤 것이고 자본주의 체제의 어떤 곳에서무언가와 연결되어, 트러블과 함께 하는 공생적 개념으로 사유 가능하다. 민속, 공동체문화, 커먼즈의 관계는 그러한 문제의 지평 속에서 살고 죽는 특이한 것들과 함께 얽히면서 새롭게조정되고 관계하는 것으로 사유 가능하다. 그것들 각각은 공생적 계열체의 한 구성원으로 존재 의미가 부여될 수 있다. 또한 그것들은 중첩된 시간과 공간의 매듭 속에서 우발적ㆍ역동적으로 함께 뭉치고, 복잡한 패턴 만들기에 서로 참여하는 얽힌 존재들로서 지속해오면서 이루어온 가치실천의 양식들이라 할 수 있다. 이 혼종적인 프로젝트 즉 민속, 커먼즈, 공동체문화를 연결하여 탐구하는 일은, 단순히 토착 지식과 실천을 서양의 그것과 혼합해 휘젓는게 아니라, 기나긴 폭력의 역사를 부인하지 않고 생성적 접촉 지대의 중요한 가능성을 탐구하는 것이다.

영어초록

“Dure” refers to a type of Korean peasant organization. Dure features innovativeness in that it was a new economic, social, and cultural formation that had never before existed in other countries. Dure served as a dynamic force for peasants’ uprisings when they were ruthlessly exploited by the ruling class. Dure also functioned as labor and play communities. In times of community crises, it changed into political organizations. “Commons” refer to goods that are generally shared by all members of a community, that is, goods that are accessible to anyone. Commons are also regarded as ‘ownerless pastures.’ Commons are overused by their individual users, who are willing to continue to maximize profits by fully using commons, resulting in the degradation of commons. This situation is referred to as the ‘tragedy of the commons.’ Some believe not only that commons are perceived as a multi-layered network among members of a community, but also that commons represent an arena of struggles among forces that are fluid and expansive. In this respect, commons are considered relationships and power, and therefore, it is emphasized that commons are produced through struggles. Commons revealed in the process of struggles are likely to be focused on, and some alternatives to these commons are sought.
Commons would be something that is alternatively linked to capitalist systems. In other words, commons are connected to something that is somewhere in capitalist systems. Such commons can be viewed as a symbiotic concept involving trouble. The relationships among folklore, community culture, and commons are likely to be reconciled and associated with unusual things that appear and disappear in such trouble. Folklore, community culture, and commons would respectively have a sense of existence as members of a symbiotic relational system. They seem to be accidentally and dynamically bound together in the overlap of time and space. Thus, they can be seen as patterns of value practices because they have continued to be intertwined with each other and participate in the creation of complex patterns. Connecting and exploring folklore, commons, and community culture seems to be a hybrid project. This is not an approach where indigenous knowledges and practices are simply mixed and stirred with Western folklore, commons, and community culture. Rather, a long history of violence is not denied, and important possibilities of generative contact zones are examined.
