사범대 특수교육과 학생들은 모두 교사를 꿈꾸는가?: 특수교육과 학생들의 진로결정 양상에 관한 연구 (A grounded theoric approach on the change of career decision-making in special education)

본 연구는 특수교육과 학생들이 진로탐색 과정에서 겪는 경험을 토대로 특수교육과 학생들의 진로결정 양상을 근거이론적 접근을 통해 분석하였다. 수도권에 소재한 A대학의 중등특수교육과 졸업생 및 재학생 10명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였으며, 반구조화된 질문을 활용한 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. Strauss & Corbin(1998)의 근거이론적 접근 방법에 따라 주요개념과 범주를 도출하고, 개념 간의 관계를 규명하기 위해 코딩 패러다임 모형을 제시하였다. 연구결과, 특수교육과 학생들의 진로결정 양상에서 나타난 중심현상은 ‘진로탐색 및 결정의 다원화’로 드러났으며, 이러한 현상을 초래하는 인과적 조건은 ‘진로에 대한 고민’으로 나타났다. 중심현상은 중재적 조건인 A대학 학생 및 진로지원의 특징과 맥락적 조건인 환경 및 제도적 요인과의 상호작용 결과로 발생하였다. 특수교육과 학생들의 진로결정 양상에서 나타난 중심 범주는 ‘특수교육과 학생들의 진로결정 과도기’였으며 이는 특수교사 양성이라는 분명한 목적이 있는 특수교육과에서 취업이 하나의 대안진로로 자리 잡기 시작한 것을 의미한다. 본 연구는 특수교육과의 맥락에서 진로결정의 유의미한 변화 양상을 포착하고 그 의미를 해석했다는 것에 의의를 가지며, 향후 특수교육과를 비롯한 사범대 학생들의 진로결정에 있어 개인적, 맥락적 요인을 이해하고 적합한 진로지도의 방향을 설정하는 것에 도움을 줄 것이다.

영어초록

This study was conducted to explore the change of career decision-making aspect in special education based on student experiences through a grounded theoretic approach. 10 students from A university in the metropolitan area were selected as participants in the study, and data were collected through in-depth interviews using semi-structured questions. Following the grounded theoric approach of Strauss & Corbin(1998), the main concepts and categories were derived, and the coding paradigm model was presented to establish the relationship between those concepts. As a result, the central phenomenon in the course of students’ career decision-making in special education departments was found to be “diversification of career exploration and decision-making”, and the causal conditions leading to this phenomenon was “concerned about own careers”. The central phenomenon occurred as an outcome of interactions with intervening conditions such as the characteristics of A university students and career guidance and contextual conditions such as environmental and institutional factors. The central category of special education students’ experiences during career decision-making was “the transition of students’ career decision-making”, which means that getting a job has turned out to be an alternative career choice in the special education department maintaining a clear purpose of fostering special education teachers. This study is relevant that it captures and interprets meaningful changes of career decision-making in the context of special education. This study will help to understand personal and contextual factors of students’ career decision-making and give insight to set the proper direction of career guidance for students at the college and department of education.
