An Analysis of the Visual Opening Range in the Central Space Per Types of Buddhist Temples

초록

This study has the objects of 4 types of temples(Early Period Temple, Hwaeom Ten Temple, Nine Mountains Temple, Wishing Temple) constructed in Korea after the introduction of Buddhism and maincontents of this study is to compare visual opening range appearing in the central space of temples.
The results of this study are as follows.
Early period temples have deployment of middle gate-tower-gold temple on one straight line in the central space and demonstrate tower centered type temples. In case of these temples, central space is in closure since corridors surround the central space.
In case of Hwaeomsipchal/Hwaeom Ten Temple, changes are locations of temples are moved to mountain regions and consequently, in space compositionition, middle gate and corridor are disappeared and phenomena of deployment of buildings in all four directions surrounding the ground in central space appeared. As the result, phenomenon of opening between building and building appears.
Temples belonging to Gusanseonmun/Nine Mountains Temple locate geographically on plane parts of mountain regions and compared to Hwaeomsipchal/Hwaeom Ten Temple, they show more free deployment styles spacially. As the result, in case of temples belonging to Gusanseonmun/Nine Mountains Temple, visual opening range of the central space shows more higher style characteristics compared to Hwaeomsipchal/Hwaeom Ten Temple.
Wonchal/Wishing Temple is a temple built to pray for peace and prosperity of kings or royal households and in case of Wonchal/Wishing Temple, central space of temple has similar characteristics of deployment styles of royal palaces. Therfore, central space of Wonchal/Wishing Temple shows visual characteristics of lower visual opening range.
