데싸우어의 기술 개념 (Dessauer’s Concept of Technology)

초록

초기 기술철학에서는 기술에 대한 두 가지 관점이 경쟁했다. 하나는 생성론적 기술이론으로 이는 발명의 과정을 분석함으로써 기술 개념을 도출한다. 다른 하나는 수용론적 기술이론으로서 기술 경험을 분석함으로써 기술 규정을 도출한다. 생성론적 기술이론이 가장초기의 기술철학을 지배했다면, 수용론적 기술이론이 뒤이어 이를 비판하며 등장했다. 데싸우어는 생성론적 기술이론을 선택하지만, 수용론적 기술이론의 주장을 수용하면서 둘을혼합한다. 그는 발명이 기술자의 의도를 실현하는 과정이 아니라 초월적 영역 속에 있는형상에 접근하는 과정으로 파악한다. 기술의 원천이 초월적 세계다 보니 기술작품은 기술자의 의도로부터 벗어나 자신만의 강력한 힘을 현실 세계에서 자신의 고유 법칙에 따라 행사한다. 초월적 세계에서 온 형상이 실현된 기술작품은 현실 세계에는 없는 ‘새로운 특성’ 을 가지며, 이는 새로운 삶의 영역을 창조한다. 기술작품은 인간이 제작한 작품으로서 자연의 현상과는 달리 ‘사물 자체’로서 존재하며, 이를 통해 인간은 현상을 넘어 근원적 존재에 대한 인식에 도달하게 된다. 기술의 초월적 원천이 기술의 종교성을 부여한다. 기술자가 기술작품을 구상하는 과정은 초월적 세계와의 만남이며, 자신이 제작한 기술작품과의만남은 초월적 형상과의 ‘다시 만남’으로서 이는 종교적 체험에 다름 아니다. 또한 사용자가 기술작품을 만나는 것은 초월적 세계와 만나는 것이고, 이는 마찬가지로 종교적 체험이다. 또한 기술작품은 인간을 서로 연결하여 ‘사물 봉사’를 가능하도록 한다. ‘사물 봉사’를통해 인간은 서로에게 윤리적 행위를 하게 되며, 이를 통해 하나의 새로운 윤리적 공동체가 형성된다. 결국 기술은 자체가 종교적인 것으로서 현실 세계 속에서 초월적 세계와 연결하는 기능을 수행하면서 문화를 발전시킨다.

영어초록

In the early philosophy of technology, two perspectives on technology competed. One is the generative theory of technology, which derives a technology concept by analyzing the process of the invention. The other is a receptive theory of technology, which derives a technology concept by analyzing technology experiences. Whereas generative theory dominated the earliest technological philosophy, receptive theory followed and criticized it.
Dessauer chooses the generative theory of technology, but mixes the two perspectives while accepting the arguments of the receptive theory of technology. He understands that invention is not the process of realizing the intention of the engineer, but the process of approaching the form in the transcendent realm. As the source of technology is a transcendental world, technical works escape from the intention of the engineer and exert their own powerful power in the real world according to its own laws. Technological works in which forms from a transcendent world are realized have ‘new characteristics’ that are not found in the real world, and this creates a new realm of life. Technological works are works produced by humans, and unlike natural phenomena, they exist as ‘things themselves’, and through this, human cognition goes beyond the phenomena and reaches the original existence.
The transcendent source of technology confers the religious nature of technology. The process by which an engineer conceives a technical work is an encounter with a transcendental world, and an encounter with a technical work he has produced is a “re-encounter” with a transcendental form, which is nothing but a religious experience. Also, when a user encounters a technical work, he encounters a transcendent world, which is likewise a religious experience. In addition, technical works connect humans to each other to enable ‘service through things’. Through “service through things,” humans engage in ethical behavior toward each other, and through this, a new ethical community is formed. In the end, technology is itself religious and develops culture while performing the function of connecting with the transcendent world in the real world.
