고대일본의 都市와 移動의 문제 - 천궁(遷宮)과 천경(遷京) - (Issues of Cities and Transfer in Ancient Japan - Focus on Transfer of the Palace(遷宮) and Transfer of the Capital(遷京)-)

초록

일본고대의 도시는 서양사회의 도시와는 다른 특성을 갖고 있지만, 인구의 집중과 사회적 분업의 전개 그리고 사회적 여러 계층의 존재와 부의 집중을 통한 유통의 전개 등의 도시적 경관을 갖는다는 점에서 고대도시로 이해된다. 더 나아가 일본도시사연구는 전통도시-근대도시-현대도시의 3분법으로 도시의 역사를 설명할 수 있는데, 그 중 고대도시는 조카마치(城下町)와 함께 전통도시의 영역에 속한다.
종래의 고대일본의 도시에 대한 이해는 궁과 도성의 합체로서의 ‘궁도(宮都)’라는 공간적 이해와 관련지어 설명한다. 하지만 이러한 이해는 이동하는 지배자의 공간으로서의 궁과 경의 모습을 완전하게 설명하고 있다고 보기는 어렵다. 그래서 율령국가 성립 이전의 왕궁 혹은 궁이 갖는 성격과 율령국가 이후의 궁과 경이 세트로 되어 있는 궁경(宮京)의 모습을 나누어 생각할 필요가 있다. 특히 이동하는 궁과 경을 ‘천궁(遷宮)’과 ‘천경(遷京)’의 문제로 분류하여 재검토한다.
마지막으로, 일본도시의 이동에서 고정으로의 의미는 3단계로 구분할 수 있다. 천궁(7세기 이전)→천경(8세기)→고정도시(9세기 이후)의 3단계 중, 천궁의 시기는 한반도와의 관련 속에서 아직 왜국이 국가적 형성기에 속한 단계이다. 다음, 8세기 천도의 시기는 동아시아 속의 혼란기인 7세기를 지나 왜국에서 일본으로 대왕에서 천황으로의 탈각을 거친 8세기의 나라시대를 가리킨다. 마지막 고정도시 평안궁/경은 7세기말에 성립되고 8세기의 전개기를 거친 일본율령국가가 일본 자체에 침잠하는 변용의 시기를 맞이하는 증거인 것이다.

영어초록

The Japanese ancient cities have different features from those in Western society, but they are understood as ancient cities in points where they have an urban landscape, such as concentration of population, development of societal job division, and development of distribution through the existence of various social classes and wealth concentration. Furthermore, the Japanese urban history studies can generally explain the urban history in trichotomous method of traditional city, early modern city and modern city, and the ancient city belongs to the realm of traditional city together with castle towns(城下 町).
The understanding of the cities in traditional ancient Japan is explained as relating to the spatial understanding of ‘Capital sites, which is the united body of the Palace and Capital city. However, it is hard to recognize such an understanding as a flawless explanation about the appearance of the Palace and Capital as a space for a transferring ruler. Accordingly, it is necessary to consider this issue by dividing the ancient cities into the character of a kingdom or Palace before the establishment of Ritsuryo Court and the appearance of the Palace and Capital which were located as a set. Particularly, this study intends to re-examine the transferring Palace and Capital by classifying them into the issues of ‘transfer of the Palace’ and ‘transfer of the Capital’.
Lastly, the meaning of the transfer to permanent settlement of the city in Japan into 3 phases. Among the three phases of Transfer of the Palace (before the 7th century) → Transfer of the Capital(8th century) → Static city (after the 9th century), the period of the Transfer of the Palace belongs to the formative one for Wae State trying to change itself into a newly-emerging state in the relationship with the Korean Peninsula. Next, the period of the Transfer of the Capital in the 8th century indicates the Nara period in the 8th century when Japan passed through the turbulent period of East Asia in the 7th century and evolved from Wae State to Japan, then to the Great King, and upgraded to the Emperor of Japan. The last static city - Japanese Old Capital Heijokyo - is the very evidence that proves the Japanese Ritsuryo Court, which was established in the late 7th century and went through the development period in the 8th century, had faced the period of transformation into its submission to Japan itself.
