학문방법으로 본 인물성동의논쟁 (Human Nature-Non Human Nature Discussion(人物性同異論爭) through Academic Method(學問方法))

초록

이 논문의 목적은 조선시대 성리학자들의 인물성동이논쟁을 중심으로 논쟁자들 사이에서 주로 이용되는 유학의 논쟁·학문방법을 살펴보는 데 있다. 인물성동이논쟁은 그동안 여러 연구자의 관심을 받았고 많은 연구결과가 도출되었으나 논쟁의 내용, 과정, 결과에 대하여 주목하였기 때문에 논쟁의 방법을 고찰하여 유학적 측면에서 논쟁의 가치를 평가한 연구 성과는 부족하였다.
이런 면에 주목하여 당시 인물성동이논쟁에서 사용된 논쟁방법이 과연 유학적인 학문방법을 통해 구축된 이론체계의 결과로 진행되었는지에 대한 의문점이 생겼고, 그들의 쟁점들을 통해 그 양상을 살펴보았다.
언어분석학적으로 인물성동이논쟁을 살펴보면 논리학적 모순문제와 인간의 사고를 통한 학문방법에서 대전제의 진리성 확보와 같은 문제점을 확인할 수 있었으나 여기에 그치지 않고 本性의 문제를 내면화 시켜 이해하고자 하는 모습을 도출해 냈고 이를 유학적 학문방법인 修己와 安人·安百姓의 측면에서 보기 위해 공맹유학의 학문방법을 통해 그 단초를 삼았다.
공맹유학은 修己를 통한 학문방법을 제시하며, 克己와 復禮爲仁을 그 구체적인 방법과 과정으로 제시한다. 공자는 修己의 방법인 克己復禮爲仁이 일상의 삶 가운데에서 매 순간 일어나야 한다고 말하며, 이를 통해 사물에 얽매이지 않고, 사물을 실체화하여 이해하려 하지 않음을 언급하였다.
인공지능의 시대가 될수록 인공지능이 어려움을 느낄 수 있는 인간의 도덕적 가치와 책임감, 창의성, 독창성 등의 인문학적인 요소를 인간이 제시하기 위해서는 다양한 사상적 검토가 필요하다. 따라서 서양 철학과는 다른 모습의 동양 철학, 특히 유학의 학문방법에 대한 재조명을 하고 학문의 범위나 주제 등이 다시 논의되어야 한다. 지금까지의 학문방법으로 널리 쓰였던 유물론적인 방법, 언어분석적인 방법, 논리적인 방법을 통해 능동적으로 시대를 선도해 나갈 사상의 역할을 할 수 있을지 고민해 볼 필요가 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence, which emerges with the development of artificial intelligence, by focusing on the human nature debate of Joseon Dynasty Neo-Confucian scholars. The human nature debate has been the subject of interest from many researchers and many research results have been derived, but since the content, process, and results of the debate have been emphasized, there have been no studies that have evaluated the value of the debate from a Confucian perspective by examining the methodology of the debate.
Focusing on this aspect, I questioned whether the methodology used in the human nature debate at the time was conducted as a result of the theoretical system built through Confucian academic methods, and examined the aspects of their issues.
When examining the human nature debate from a linguistic analytical perspective, we can identify problems such as logical contradictions and the need to secure the truthfulness of the major premise in academic methods through human thinking, but we go beyond that and draw out the image of trying to internalize and understand the problem of nature. To view this from the perspective of Confucian academic methods, we took the first step through the academic methods of Confucianism.
Confucianism presents an academic method through self-cultivation, and suggests self-control and returning to the rites as specific methods and processes. Confucius said that self-control and returning to the rites should happen every moment in everyday life, and through this, he mentioned that one should not be bound by things and not try to understand things as entities.
As the era of artificial intelligence approaches, humans need to provide humanistic elements such as moral values, responsibility, creativity, and originality, which artificial intelligence may find difficult, through various ideological reviews. Therefore, it is necessary to re-examine the academic methods of Eastern philosophy, especially Confucianism, which is different from Western philosophy, and to discuss the scope and subject of the study again. It is necessary to consider whether materialistic methods, linguistic analytical methods, and logical methods, which have been widely used as academic methods so far, can play the role of an active ideology that will lead the times.
