남원 초촌리 고분군의 축조 연대와 그 성격 (The Construction Period and Characteristics of the Chochon-ri Tumuli in Namwon)

초록

본 논고는 남원시 이백면 초촌리 고분군 일대 백제 횡혈식석실묘의 조사 현황과 유형을 살펴보고 이들 횡혈식석실묘의 개략적인 연대와 그 성격을 추정하였다.
남원 요천변에 자리한 척문리 산성은 장수-남원과 남원-운봉을 연결하는 교통로상의 요충지에 자리하고 있으며, 또한 인근의 초촌리 일대에는 백제 시기의 고분 약 240여 기가 밀집 분포하고 있는 것으로 알려져 있다. 더불어 기존 척문리고분 출토품으로 전해지는 은화관식 또한 초촌리 고분군 N구역 출토품으로 확인되었다. 현재까지의 조사를 통해 초촌리 고분군의 횡혈식석실묘 유형을 분석한 결과 터널식과 고임식, 두 가지 유형으로 구분할 수 있다.
터널식 유형은 장방형 평면형태의 현실에 편재된 연도를 개설하고 할석 혹은 괴석형 할석으로 벽체를 축조하였다. 벽체는 상부로 갈수록 단벽을 중심으로 안으로 내경되게 쌓아 올린 후, 2매 이상의 개석으로 천장을 구성하였다.
고임식(조임식) 유형은 장방형 평면의 현실에 편재(좌‧우) 혹은 중앙 연도를 개설하고 할석 혹은 괴석형 할석으로 벽체를 구성하되, 양장벽을 점차 내경되게 쌓아 수매의 개석을 이용하여 마무리하였다. 특히, 중앙에 연도를 시설한 경우 장대석을 문주석으로 사용하였다.
이러한 점으로 볼 때 초촌리 고분군의 터널식 유형의 횡혈식석실묘는 대체적으로 6세기 초∼중반에 해당할 것으로 추정된다. 그리고 한 가지 특징적인 것은 사비시기의 전형적인 단면육각형 고임식 구조의 판석조 석실이 현재까지 확인되지 않았다는 점이다. 결국 이 같은 의문은 초촌리 고분군의 확대 발굴조사를 통해 밝혀질 것으로 본다.

영어초록

This paper examines the current status and types of Baekje horizontal stone chamber tombs in the Chochon-ri tumuli of Ibaek-myeon, Namwon-si and estimates the approximate date and characteristics of these horizontal stone chamber tombs.
Cheokmun-ri Mountain Fortress, located on the banks of Namwon Yocheon Stream, is situated at a strategic point on the transportation route connecting Jangsu-Namwon and Namwon-Unbong. It is also known that there are approximately 240 ancient tombs from the Baekje period densely distributed in the nearby Chochon-ri area. In addition, the silver flower crown decoration (銀花冠飾), which was previously said to be an artifact excavated from the Cheokmun-ri tumuli, was also confirmed to be an artifact unearthed from Section N of the Chochon-ri ancient tombs group. As a result of analyzing the horizontal stone chamber tomb types of the Chochon-ri tumuli through the researches conducted to date, they can be divided into two types: tunnel type and piled-up type.
A tunnel type tomb was constructed by opening an aisle (羡道) biased in a long rectangular plane-shaped morgue (玄室) and constructing walls with split stones or block-shaped stones. The walls were built inward with the single wall as the center and the ceiling was formed with two or more pieces of stone.
The type of structure made by piling up stones opens an aisle on one side (left or right) or in the center of the morgue and builds walls with split stones or block-shaped ones. The walls were constructed to make the diameter get gradually inward and finished with the ceiling made of stones of several sizes.
Whereas, in the piling type of structure, an aisle was made at one side (left or right) or in the center of the rectangular plane-shaped morgue (玄室) and walls were finished using several pieces of stones by making them gradually tilting inward. Particularly, when an aisle (羡道) was installed in the center, a long platform stone (長臺石) was used as a gate pillar stone (門柱石).
From this perspective, it is estimated that the tunnel-type horizontal stone chamber tombs of the Chochon-ri tumuli are generally from the early to mid-6th century. Another characteristic is that the typical hexagonal cross-section stone chamber of the Sabi period has not been discovered until now. Ultimately, it is expected that these questions will be answered through further expanded excavation of the Chochon-ri ancient tombs group.
