서론

해방신학으로서의 민중신학은 민중의 현실에 나타나는 모순을 극복하기 위한 프락시스(praxis)에 동참한다. 민중신학은 역사 속에서 민중의 종교-문화적, 사회-정치적 상황 안에서 민중과 교통하는 새로운 방법의 행동 신학을 추구한다. 민중신학은, 신학이란 민중의 현실 속에서 그들과 동일시되어야 한다고 주장한다. 그런 면에서 민중신학의 형성은 해방과 자유를 추구하는 민중의 투쟁 기능에 의해 뒷받침되고 있다. 민중신학은 억압받는 민중의 경험과 관련된 기독교 신앙에 대한 학문적 연구이다. 따라서, 민중신학의 기능은 역사 안에서 완전한 인간성을 이루고자 하는 민중의 투쟁과 복음 사이의 상호작용을 체계화하는 것이다. 민중신학은 해방에 대한 민중의 경험과 성서의 모형의 빛에서 기독교 신앙의 본질을 분석하고 수립하기를 추구한다.
