역사문화콘텐츠를 활용한 청산리전투의 재현 -독립기념관 전시 사례를 중심으로 (The Reproduction of Battle of Cheongsanri based on History and Culture Content -With a focus on the case of exhibitions in the Independence Hall of Korea-)

본 연구는 독립기념관 사례를 중심으로 상설전시관과 특별기획전, 그리고 체험전시물과 영상콘텐츠에서 청산리전투가 어떻게 전시되는지 살피고 그 특징과 시사점을 도출해보고자 했다. 독립기념관은 개관 이래 현재까지 상설전시관 제5관에서 청산리전투를 전시해왔다. 그런데 청‘10일 간 전투’로 언급하고 지휘관 등 인물에 주목하는 등 청산리전투에 대한 일반적인 설명방식과 달랐다. 개별 전투의 공간에 주목했지만 상세한 설명이 없었고 동일한 사실을 전시에서 다르게 언급한 경우도 있었다.
2020년 독립전쟁 100주년을 맞아 개최된 특별기획전에서는 독립전쟁에 참여한 평범한 사람에 주목하고 수기, 회고를 적극 활용하는 방식으로 상설전시관과 차별화했다. 이러한 방식은 관람객들의 공감을 얻었지만 역사적 사실을 구체적으로 설명한 것은 아니었다. 독립전쟁 재현모형이나 독립전쟁을 주제로 한 체험전시물, 영상콘텐츠는 청산리전투를 재현한 것이 아니었다. 하지만 전시물의 배치 순서와 상황 설정, 독립전쟁 가운데 일반에 가장 널리 알려진 청산리전투의 ‘대중성’ 등으로 인해 관람객이 이를 청산리전투로 ‘상상’했을 개연성이 높았다.
한국독립운동사에서 청산리전투가 가진 상징성을 고려할 때 독립기념관 전시에서 청산리전투)의 내용은 다소 충실하지 못하다는 인상이 든다. 다뤄지는 내용도 전투의 승패나 전과 등을 강조하거나 전투 과정 등을 재현하는 방식이 대부분이었다. 여기에는 청산리전투에 대한 연구 공백이 원인으로 작용했다고 볼 수 있다. 청산리전투와 관련된 연구가 심화되고 ‘실체적 진실’이 새롭게 밝혀져 이를 토대로 전시도 진일보 될 수 있기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This study set out to investigate the ways that Battle of Cheongsanri(靑山里戰鬪) was exhibited at permanent exhibition halls, specially planned exhibitions, experiential exhibits and video content with a focus on the case of the Independence Hall of Korea, trying to figure out its characters and implications. Since its opening, the Independence Hall of Korea has run exhibitions about Battle of Cheongsanri at Hall 5 that is a permanent exhibition hall. These exhibitions, however, offered different explanations from common approaches to the battle by describing it as a "ten-day battle" in Qing and focusing on figures including commanders. Even though they paid attention to the spaces of individual fights, they provided no detailed explanations about them and even mentioned the same facts differently in some cases.
A special exhibition was planned in 2020 in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Independence War. It was differentiated from the permanent exhibition by focusing on ordinary people that fought in Independence War and making active use of memoirs and recollections. This approach earned sympathy from viewers, but they offered no specific explanations about historical facts. The models reproducing Independence War and the experiential exhibits and video content on the topic of the war were not exactly the reproduction of Battle of Cheongsanri. It was, however, highly likely that viewers "imagined" the battle after looking at these exhibits based on their arrangement order, setting of situations, and "popular appeal" of the battle, which is the most well-known battle in Independence War.
Given the symbolism of Battle of Cheongsanri in the history of Independence Movement of Korea, the content about the war leaves some room for improvement at the exhibition in the Independence Hall of Korea. It put an emphasis on the victory or defeat and military achievements of the battle and reproduced the battle process in most cases. One of the contributing factors here is the gap in the research of the battle. In the future, exhibitions about the battle will hopefully make progress based on the profound research of the battle and "substantive truth" uncovered in the research.
