초록

This study analyzes the rates of UJI turn migration in and out of rural areas. It also analyzes the characteristics of different migrants and the impetus behind their migration. We were able to confirm that the migration in and out of a region depended heavily on different regional characteristics. The cluster analysis revealed that the reasons behind UJI-Turn can be classified into three groups: familial obligations, local environment, and professional relocation. Those who indicated professional relocation as their primary impetus for migration were more likely to be male, and were less likely to I-Turners. Conversely, U-Turners contained a lower percentage of married individuals and were remarkable in that the majority of them migrated before securing employment. These U-Turners also reported lower job satisfaction compared to those who migrated for non-work related reasons. Finally, upon analysis of the potential for permanent residence among migrants we found that the level of happiness is notably low for U-Turners and they are more likely to migrate repeatedly. This particular finding is important to consider when thinking about programs that encourage migration and permanent settlement in the future.
