세대 간 돌봄 제공자로서 노령층의 스트레스와 포켓 공원 설계에 대한 신경과학적 고찰 (Neuroscience Perspective Investigation on the Stress and Pocket Park Design of Elderly People As Inter-generational Caregivers)

초록

세계적인 고령화 배경 속에서 동아시아 국가의 노인들을 비롯한 노령층이 세대 간 돌봄 제공자 역할을하고 있다. 커뮤니티에 있는 포켓 공원은 접근성이 좋고 기능이 다양하므로 세대 간 돌봄 제공자와 아이들에게 선호되는 장소이다. 그러나 현재 포켓 공원에 관한 대부분의 연구는 주로 디자이너의 경험적 시각에머물러 있다. 특히 어린이 놀이 공간이나 놀이 시설을기획할 때 어린이의 놀이 요구에만 초점을 맞추고 돌봄 제공자인 조부모의 특별한 수요를 고려하는 경우는 드물다. 이에 본 연구는 인지신경과학 선행연구를바탕으로, 복잡한 환경에서 돌봄 제공자로서 노인이겪는 인지적 부담과 정서적 변화를 신경과학적인 관점에서 접근하였다. 본 연구는 커뮤니티에 있는 포켓공원에서 노인이 돌봄 제공자로서 손자녀와 상호작용하는 현상에 초점을 둔다. 우선, 문헌분석법을 통해포켓 공원에서 노인이 제공하는 세대 간 돌봄에 관한선행연구를 정리하고 분석하였다. 다음으로, 돌봄 제공자인 노인의 신경 활동을 기반으로 조부모가 돌봄제공자 역할을 수행할 때 겪는 스트레스를 분석하였다. 첫째, 환경에서 잠재하고 있는 위협에 응대하는능력을 갖춘 편도체가 연령 증가에 따라 변하지 않지만, 연령 증가에 따라 편도체와 정서 처리를 담당하는전두엽 영역 간의 연결이 강화되고 편도체와 후뇌 영역(예: 시각 피질, 해마방회) 간의 연결이 약화하기 때문에 노인이 위협을 정확하게 판단하는 능력이 약해지게 된다. 둘째, 집중력을 손자녀에게 집중시키는 역할을 담당하는 탑-다운(Top-Down)ﾠ시스템이 노화와함께 변화함에 따라 노인이 집중력을 억제하고 조절하는 능력이 약화한다. 그러나 포켓 공원이라는 복잡한 환경에서 손자녀의 안전을 위해 조부모는 물리적환경 위협 탐지 시스템 및 선택적 주의력 시스템을강제로 작동시켜야 한다. 이에 따라 돌봄 제공자가 스트레스를 경험하게 된다. 마지막으로, 조부모 및 노인의 이중 시각으로 포켓 공원에서 손자녀에 대한 정서적 보상 및 예측 가능한 보상이라는 두 가지 비조형적인 미적 인식을 해석하였다. 첫째, 노화 때문에 중변연계 도파민 경로(Mesolimbic Dopamine Pathway) 가 긍정적인 정서적 자극에 더욱 집중하게 된다. 이는노인이 긍정적인 정서 자극을 처리할 때 복측 피개영역에서 복측 선조체 및 복내측 전전두엽 피질로의도파민 투사가 강화되는 것으로 나타난다. 둘째, 노화에 따른 도파민성 신경세포 손실 및 흑질/복측 피개영역(SN/VTA)의 구조적 퇴화로 인해 노인이 예측가능한 보상에 의존하게 된다. 본 연구는 노인의 뇌위협 감지 메커니즘, 집중력 억제 메커니즘, 신경 보상 메커니즘을 통해 돌봄 제공자인 노인의 스트레스및 보상 특성을 재해석하였으며, 노인의 신경 특성과결합하여 노인의 세대 간 돌봄에 적합한 공간 및 시설 설계 방안을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 디자이너들이포켓 공원의 세대 간 공간 및 시설을 설계할 때 다양한 연령층에 적합한 디자인 방향을 모색하는 데 도움을 주고자 한다.

영어초록

In the context of global aging, a large number of elderly people, represented by East Asian countries, are engaged in intergenerational caregiving roles. Pocket parks in the community are highly favored by intergenerational caregivers and children due to their strong accessibility and diverse functions. However, current research on pocket parks mostly stays at the experiential perspective of designers, especially when designing children's play areas or amusement facilities, which often only start from the children's play needs and rarely consider the special needs faced by grandparents in fulfilling their caregiving roles. Therefore, based on previous research in cognitive neuroscience, this study approaches the cognitive load and emotional changes of elderly people as caregivers in complex environments through neuroscience. The research focuses on the phenomenon of elderly people interacting with their grandchildren as intergenerational caregivers in community-based pocket parks. Firstly, the research adapts literature analysis method to sort out and analyze the characteristics of existing research papers on intergenerational care for the elderly in pocket parks.
Secondly, based on the neural activity of elderly people as caregivers, analyzes the caregiver stress of grandparents. Firstly, the amygdala's ability to respond to potential threats in the environment does not change with age. However, at the structural connectivity level, aging increases the connection between the amygdala and the frontal lobe region responsible for emotional processing, while weakening the connection with the posterior regions of the brain (such as the visual cortex and parahippocampal gyrus), leading to a decrease in the elderly's ability to accurately judge threats.
Secondly, The top-down system responsible for focusing attention on grandchildren changes with aging, leading to a decline in the ability to suppress and control attention in older adults. However, in the complex environment of Pocket Park, grandparents need to forcibly access the physical environment threat monitoring system and selective attention system for the safety of their grandchildren, resulting in caregiver stress. Finally, from the perspectives of grandparents and the elderly, explain the two types of non aesthetic awareness of emotional rewards and predictable rewards for grandchildren in Pocket Park. Firstly, aging makes the mesolimbic dopamine pathway more focused on positive emotional stimuli, as evidenced by increased dopamine projection from VTA (ventral tegmental area) to VS (ventral striatum) and vmPFC (ventral medial prefrontal cortex) in older adults when processing positive emotional stimuli. Secondly, the loss of dopaminergic neurons and structural degradation of substance nigra/central tegmental area (SN/VTA) with age lead to the dependence of older adults on predictable rewards. This study reinterprets the stress and reward characteristics of elderly people as caregivers through the threat monitoring mechanism, attention inhibition mechanism, and neural reward compensation mechanism of the brain. Combined with their neural characteristics, space and facility design suggestions suitable for intergenerational care of the elderly are proposed to help designers find design directions suitable for cross age groups when designing intergenerational spaces and facilities in pocket parks.
