포스트구조주의 논의를 통해 본 한국 대중춤의 사회문화적 의미 (Poststructuralist approaches on the socio-cultural meaning of Korean popular dance)

초록

본 연구는 포스트구조주의(post-structuralism) 대표적인 철학자로 거론되는 질 들뢰즈(Gilles Deleuze)의 철학적 사유와 더불어 춤문화연구를 통해 춤학문의 범위를 넓힌 수잔 리 포스터 (Susan Leigh Foster)의 포스트구조주의 담론을 통해 춤학문과 역사 속에서 간과되었던 한국 대중춤 연구의 방법을 새롭게 마련하고, 그 사회문화적 의미를 다시 쓰고자 하는 일고찰(一考察)이다. ‘대중’이란 말이 더 이상 낯설지 않고, ‘대중춤’에 관한 언급 또한 사회 안에서 자주 이슈화되고 있는 가운데 대중춤 연구의 주목을 통해 춤 연구의 패러다임을 확장시키는 것은 현재의 우리 모습을 춤으로 조명할 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다. 본 연구의 제II장에서는 포스트구조주의의 대표적인 철학자인 질 들뢰즈의 ‘리좀’의 철학적 사유와 춤문화 연구를 통해 춤추는 몸의 영역을 확장한 미국학자 수잔 리 포스터가 제시한 순회학문(Ambulant Scholarship)의 담론들을 살펴봄으로써 대중춤의 사유모델 및 연구방법론을 그들의 담론에서 찾고자 했다. 제 III장에서는 사회, 정치, 문화 및 역사와의 연계 속에서 몸의 다양한 담론을 형성한 춤문화연구에 영향을 준 문화연구(Cultural Studies), 대중문화연구(Popular Cultural Studies) 및 대중예술(Popular Arts)과의 연계를 통해 대중춤의 범주, 속성 및 특징을 규명함으로써, 결론적으로 제 IV장에서 한국 대중춤의 유형과 사회문화적 의미를 포스트구조주의의 시각에서 고찰하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 대중춤 연구의 체계를 잡고 그 지평을 확대하기 위해 문화연구에 기반 한 대중문화 및 대중예술에 관한 선행연구를 검토함으로써 대중춤의 유형, 범주 및 특징을 정립하고, 포스트구조주의의 철학적, 미학적, 사회문화적인 담론들 과의 연계 속에서 한국 대중춤의 사회문화적 의미를 고찰하고자 했다.

영어초록

The steps and patterns of popular dances tend to reflect the values and attitudes of society in the 20th century in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to examine the Korean popular dance which is based on the postsructuralist approahces. This study is to categorize the popular dance in conjunction with the philosophical, aesthetic, and sociocultural discourses.
First, this study examines the Deleuze-Guattarian philosophy of the body and Susan Leigh Foster's 'Ambulant Scholarship" in consideration of the popular dance as a critical inquiry. In Anti-Oedipus, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari analyzed capitalism and schizophrenia with body and desire in which explain the individual integrity and internal relation of beings in the society. Susan Leigh Foster examines the dancing body as a primary text such as "writing body" and "written body" which means embodied-cultural practice. Foster pointed out the "Ambulant Scholarship" which means the conception of body as tangible physicality transporting psychological and social values likewise popular dance. Thoses two philosophical discourses enable to expand the range of bodily actions and endeavors that deserve our attention in the cultural practices. Second, this study has proceeded after classifying popular dance into a type of dance that has been most frequently addressed in connection with media and dominant culture. Third, this study attempt to re-write the bodily history in connection with the discourses of the sociocultural contexts and meanings overlooked in history.
Therefore, this study emphasizes that it is necessary (1) to extend the paradigm by establishing the concept and category of ‘popular dance,’ which have been classified as a neglected view on the traditional scholarship in dance, (2) to examine the properties of the Korean popular dance by understanding aspects of changes in and characteristics of popular dance in Korean society, and (3) to promote the social influence and status that dance has by examining the features of popular dance past and present.
