페터 춤토르 건축의 공간적 분위기를 통한 표리적 공간인식 연구 (A study on the 'Out & In-side' Spatial Perception through the Spatial Atmosphere of Peter Zumthor's Architectures)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 분위기는 현상학적 배경에서 형성된 미학적 탐구 대상으로 선반성적(先反省的)으로 다가오는 종합적인 배경적 인상이다. 분위기 개념을 건축공간과 조우시킨 건축가는 페터 춤토르이다. 국내의 분위기 개념에 관한 연구는 국외 연구에 의존하고 있어 독창적인 접근과 해석이 요구된다. 본 연구는 분위기가 동서양 문화권의 이데올로기 속에 서로 다른 방식으로 해석될 수 있다는 가정하에 동양적 공간인식론 관점으로 표리적 공간인식을 정립하고 관계성을 파악하여 실증적 공간인 페터 춤토르 건축의 공간적 분위기를 통해 검증함으로써 표리적 공간인식의 관계적 이해를 돕는 것을 연구의 목적으로 한다. (연구방법 및 범위) 이론적 범위는 서양의 미학 연구와 동양적 사상의 존재 및 관계에 대한 인식론에 근거하며, 물리적 범위는 페터 춤토르의 작품을 대상으로 한다. 연구의 방법은 첫째, 표리와 분위기를 고찰하고, 양자 간의 속성적 관계를 파악함으로써 표리적 공간인식 해석을 위한 이론적 토대를 마련한다. 둘째, 표리적 공간인식을 해석하고 관계적 요소와 특성을 제시한다. 셋째, 표리적 공간인식의 관계적 요소와 특성 들이 페터 춤토르의 작품 공간에서 어떻게 구현되었는지를 파악하여 공간적 분위기를 표리적 공간인식의 관계성으로 이해하고 가정을 검증한다. (결과) 첫째, 분위기는 주체와 객체들의 관계에서 드러나는 현상의 속성 그 자체이다. 둘째,‘표리적(表裏的)’이란 ‘음·양의 상호 관계 속에 어떤 성격을 띠거나 어떤 상태로 되어있는’또는‘주체(體)의 움직임과 객체의 현상(相)의 관계적 작용(用) 속에 어떤 성격을 띠거나 어떤 상태로 되어있는’을 의미한다. 셋째, 표리적 공간인식은 언어적 측면에서 ‘주체와 객체의 표리적 관계들의 공간적 현상을 감지(感知)하는 것’이며, 현상적 측면에서 ‘표리적 공간들의 드러남 들이 중첩된 그 자체 또는 주체와 객체 사이 관계를 매개하면서 주체를 둘러싸고 있는 환경 그 자체, 즉 기운(氣雲)을 감지(感知)하는 것’이다. 넷째, 표리적 공간인식의 관계적 요소는 관, 첩, 역이고, 특징은 대대적 관계에 의한 교호성, 부분과 전체의 합일 관계에 의한 일체성, 인과적 관계에 의한 연속성이다. 다섯째, 공간적 분위기 산출은 표리적 공간인식의 관계성으로 이해된다. (결론) 최종적으로 공간적 분위기는 동양사상에서 표리적 공간인식을 통한 감(感)으로 이해할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 공간적 분위기를 동양사상에 근거한 공간 인식론적 관점으로 해석한 최초의 연구라는 점에서 그 의의가 있다. 이 연구가 이후 다양한 관점을 가진 공간인식 연구의 활성화에 일조하길 기대한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) The atmosphere, as the subject of aesthetic inquiry formed from a phenomenological background, is the comprehensive background impression approaching pre-reflexively. Peter Zumtor encountered the concept of atmosphere with the architectural space. Research on the concept of atmosphere in Korea has relied on foreign studies and requires an original approach and interpretation. Under the assumption that it can be interpreted in different ways in the ideologies of Oriental and Western cultures, this study aimed to contribute to the relational understanding of the “Out & In-side” spatial perception by establishing and grasping the relationship based on the perspective of Oriental spatial perception theory and verifying it through the spatial atmosphere of Peter Zumtor’s architecture. (Method) This was accomplished by first understanding the “Out & In-side” and atmosphere and grasping the relationship between the two, thereby establishing the theoretical basis for the interpretation of the “Out & In-side” spatial perception. Second, the study presented relational elements and characteristics of “Out & In-side” spatial perception. Third, the spatial atmosphere was understood based on the relationship of the “Out & In-side” spatial perception, and the assumption was verified by grasping the relational elements and characteristics in Peter Zumtor’s architecture. (Results) First, the atmosphere was the property of the phenomenon revealed in the relationship between the subject and object.
Second, “Out & In-side” meant “having a certain character or being in a certain state in the relationship between yin and yang or in the relational functioning of the movement of the subject and the phenomena of the object.” Third, “Out & In-side” spatial perception in terms of language meant to sense the spatial phenomena of the “Out & In-side” relations of the subject and object, and, in terms of phenomena, was the superposition of the emergence of “Out & In-side” spaces, or the environment surrounding the subject while mediating the relationship between the subject and the object, that is, the sensing of energy. Fourth, the relational elements of “Out & In-side” spatial perception were intuition, layering, and changes, and the characteristics were reciprocity by the equivalent relationship, unity by the relational cohesion of part and whole, and continuity by the causal relationship. Fifth, the production of the spatial atmosphere could be understood as the relationship sensed through the “Out & In-side” spatial perception. (Conclusions) Finally, the spatial atmosphere can be understood as “SENSE” through “Out & In-side” spatial perception in Oriental thought. This study is significant in that it was the first to interpret the perspective of spatial recognition as atmosphere based on Oriental thought. We hope it contributes to the revitalization of spatial perception research with various perspectives in the future.
