가구소득과 기부노력 간 관계에 관한 연구 - 총 기부노력과 세속적 기부노력에 대한 비교분석 - (A Study on the Relationship between Household Income and Philanthropic Effort - Analysis on Total Philanthropic Effort and Secular Philanthropic Effort -)

초록

본 연구는 소득 규모의 영향과 상관없이 기부활동의 적극성을 파악하는데 핵심적 개념인 기부노력에초점을 둔다. 즉 소득과 정적 선행관계를 갖는 기부의 절대적 규모가 아닌 소득 대비 상대적 기부규모에초점을 둔다. 분석에서는 가구 단위에 초점을 두고 기부노력에의 영향 요인을 검증한다. 기부노력의경우, 국내 기부 연구에서 분석해 온 세속적 기부노력뿐만 아니라 해외 기부 연구에서 분석해 온종교적 기부와 세속적 기부 모두를 포괄한 총 기부노력에 대해서도 분석한다. 국내외 연구의 경향을모두 반영하는 이런 비교 차원의 접근을 통해 기부노력에 대한 이해를 심화 및 정교화 시켜 보고자한다. 분석모형 검증을 위해 2012년부터 2016년까지의 재정패널자료를 활용하고 패널토빗모형을사용한다. 또한 영향요인과 관련해서는 가구소득을 중심으로 다양한 가구 재정지표 변수들을 종합적으로 반영해서 분석한다. 분석결과, 가구소득과 총 기부노력은 부적 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 이는U자 형태의 관계를 보고하는 국외 연구결과들과 차이가 있음을 보여준다. 세속적 기부노력에서는가구소득이 역 U자 형태의 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 총 기부노력과 세속적 기부노력 모두에서 조세 역시 역 U자의 관계를 갖고, 주거비 비율(-), 문화여가비 비율(+), 상호부조적기부금 비율(+), 가구주 교육수준(+), 가구주 성별(여성)도 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 세속적 기부노력의 경우, 보완재와 대체제 기능 검증의 핵심 변수인 종교적기부금 비율은 부적 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.
국내외 기존 연구결과와의 정교한 비교를 위해 총 기부노력과 세속적 기부노력으로 구분하며 가구소득을 포함한 가구 재정지표 변수들의 영향력을 종합적으로 검증한 본 연구는 기부활동의 적극성 수준을 나타내는 개념인 기부노력에 대한 이해를 더욱 확장 및 심화시키는 점에서 큰 의미를 지닌다.

영어초록

This paper focuses on the philanthropic effort (the ratio of donation in household income), which is a key concept in grasping giving activeness. That is, the paper deals with the relative giving amount to income rather than the absolute giving amount which has a positive linear relationship with income.
While this paper focuses on household level not individual level in measurement of giving, it examines key factors influencing philanthropic efforts. In dealing with philanthropic efforts, this paper covers not only secular philanthropic effort that have been analyzed in most studies in Korea, but also total philanthropic effort which includes both religious and secular giving that has been analyzed in overseas studies. Through this comparative approach, which reflects both domestic and overseas research trends, this paper elaborates and promotes our understanding of philanthropic efforts. For the analysis, this paper employs panel Tobit model on the Financial Panel Data from 2012 to 2016 by Korean Institute of Public Finance. The analysis is conducted rigorously and comprehensively by using various household financial variables including household income and demographic variables.
The results show that household income has a significant negative relationship with total philanthropic effort, which is notably different from the U-shape hypothesis. In the case of secular philanthropic effort, household income has a significant inverted U-shape relationship. In addition, the following variables are also significant relationships with both total philanthropic effort and secular philanthropic effort: size of taxation (inverted-U relationship), ratio of housing expenses (-), ratio of culture & recreational expenses (+), ratio of mutual-aid giving (+), and education level of householder (+), and gender (female) of householder. Finally, in the case of secular philanthropic effort, ratio of religious giving has a significant negative relationship; it shows a substitutive relationship between religious giving and secular giving.
Comprehensively and rigorously examining the influence of household financial factors on two types of philanthropic effort (total philanthropic effort and secular philanthropic effort) which indicates giving activeness, this paper contributes to broadening and deepening our understanding regarding philanthropic behavior at the level of household.
