가칭 《경기역사지도집》의 체재 구성과 편찬을 위한 시론 (A Pilot Study on the Format and Compilation of 《Historical Atlas of Gyeong-Gi》)

초록

본 연구는 가칭 《경기역사지도집》의 체재와 편찬 방안에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 먼저 연구자는 최근 우리나라의 국가역사지도집 논의가 방법 측면에 치중되어 있음을 지적하면서 국가지도집 편찬과 병행하여 지역역사지도집의 편찬 작업을 도모함으로써 방법 측면에 우선하여 내용 측면, 그 중에서도 콘텐츠 구축에 힘쓸 필요가 있다고 주장하였다. 연구자는 해외의 주요 지역역사지도집의 체재를 분석하여 행정구역, 자연환경, 인문환경이 공통된 3대 내용범주라는 점을 밝히고, 이들 3대 내용 범주를 《경기역사지도집》의 기본 체재로 삼자고 제안하였다. 다만 이 때 행궁 행차 노선, 능묘, 도읍지의 방어를 위한 군사시설 등 지역 고유의 역사·문화적 배경을 부각시키는 역사지도들을발굴하여 편제에 반영함으로써 3대 내용 범주 중심의 기본 체재를 지역 정체성에 맞게 적절히 변형하고 재구성하는 일의 중요성을 강조하였다. 끝으로지역역사지도집이 지역민의 장소감 증진과 정신세계의 풍요로움에 기여하는지역인문학으로 전화되어야 한다는 점과, 경기역사지도집의 성공적 편찬을위한 두 가지 관건으로서 역사지명사전의 편찬과 더불어 역사지리정보의 고증 작업에서 야외답사의 중요성을 언급하였다.

영어초록

This study examines the format and compilation of the so-called 《Historical Atlas of Gyeong-Gi》. To do this, the author points out that the discussion on the recent historical atlas of Korea attaches too much of the methodological aspect, and argues that there is a need to discuss the content aspect, i.e. content construction, prior to the methodological aspect in compiling the regional historical atlas. And then, the researcher analyzes the format and compilation of some regional historical atlases abroad and reveals that the administrative district, the natural environment, and the human environment are the three main-content categories. The researcher considers these three main-content categories as the basic format of 《Historical Atlas of Gyeong-Gi》, but suggests the necessity of appropriate modification and reconstruction considering the historical and cultural background of Gyeong-Gi region and of unique themes of historical maps showing the regional identity of Gyeong-Gi, such as the distribution of military facilities for the defense of national capital, royal tombs, the king’s routes to local palaces, and so on. Finally, the author proposes that regional historical atlas belongs to a certain kind of the regional humanities that contributes to the improvement of the local people's sense of place and the richness of the spiritual world, and the two key points for the successful compilation of 《Historical Atlas of Gyeong-Gi》 are ‘gazetteer of historical place names’ and ‘field trips’ for historical-geographical investigation.
