대학 편입생의 대학 편입과정과 대학생활적응에 대한 질적 연구 (A qualitative study on the College Transfer Process and College Life Adaptation for College Transfer Students)

초록

본 연구는 4년제 대학 편입생이 편입을 준비하면서 겪은 다양한 경험과 편입 후 대학생활적응이 어떠한가에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제는 (1) 대학 편입생의 편입과정에 대한 경험은 어떠한가? (2)대학 편입생의 대학생활적응 과정은 어떠한가? 로 설정하였다. 이러한 연구문제를 해결하기 위해 대학 편입생의 대학생활적응과 관련된 선행연구를 분석하고 대학 편입생 9명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료는 근거이론 분석방법에 기초하여 분석하였다. 분석을 통해 도출된 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 심층면담을 통해 얻은 자료를 반복적 비교 분석하여 77개 개념, 35개 하위범주, 14개 범주를 도출하였다. 둘째, 대학 편입생들은 ‘불분명한 대학진학 동기’, ‘편입학 선택 동기’, ‘편입학 전공 선택 기준’의 인과적 조건에 따라 ‘편입에 성공하여 4년제 대학생이 됨’이라는 중심 현상을 경험하였고, 이 현상은 ‘편입에 대한 주변의 반응’, ‘편입에 필요한 경제적 지원’, ‘편입 준비 활동’, ‘편입과정에서 경험한 심리적 어려움’의 맥락적 조건에 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 ‘편입 후 양가적 감정 경험’의 중재적 조건에 따라 ‘학업적응’, ‘사회적응’, ‘정서적응’, ‘진로적응’의 상호작용전략을 활용하였고, 그 결과 ‘불안한 과정을 이겨내고 원하는 내가 됨’으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대학 편입생의 대학생활적응 과정은 ‘편입 결심 단계’, ‘편입 준비 단계’, ‘편입 후 적응단계’의 3단계로 확인되었으며, 대학 편입생이 대학생활에 적응하는 유형을 분석하여 ‘원하는 전공으로 편입 성공형’과 ‘학위를 높여 편입 성공형’으로 구체화하였다. 본 연구는 대학 편입을 개인의 삶에서 진로를 적극적으로 선택하는 성공 경험으로 새롭게 해석하였다. 편입생들이 편입을 결심한 후 스스로 편입을 준비하고 편입에 성공하여 새로운 대학생활에 적응하고 있음을 확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This study was intended to examine various experiences by college transfer student while preparing for transfer and how they adjusted to their university life after transfer. Research questions set in this study are (1) What do transfer students experience in the transfer process? (2) How do college transfer students adjust themselves to the lives of new schools? In order to solve this problem, previous studies related to college life adjustment of transfer students were analyzed. In addition, data were collected through an in-depth interview with college transfer students. The collected data were analyzed based on an analysis of the grounded theory method, which is one of qualitative research methods. The research findings derived from the analysis are as follows. First, 77 concepts, 35 sub-categories, and 14 categories were derived through repeated comparative analyses of the data obtained through the interviews. Second, college transfer students experienced the central phenomenon of ‘successful transfer to become four-year college students’ according to the causal conditions of ‘unknown university entrance motivation’, ‘movement selection motivation’, and ‘movement selection criteria’. In addition, the interaction strategies of ‘academic adaptation’, ‘social adaptation’, ‘emotional adaptation’, and ‘career adaptation’ were used according to the intervention conditions of ‘adoption after incorporation’, and as a result, ‘overcoming the unstable process and becoming the desired self’. Third, the college life adaptation process of the college transfer students was identified in three stages: ‘decision to transfer’, ‘preparation to transfer’, and ‘adaptation to transfer’ and ‘success to transfer to the desired major’ by analyzing the types of college transfer students. This study reinterpreted the college transfer as a successful experience of actively choosing a career path in their personal life. It is meaningful in that the students were confirmed to be prepared for their transfer after deciding to the transfer and be adjusting to their new college life after successful transfer.
